Labor have alternative priorities for metro line development - so there are other areas which would likely benefit from a Labor govt.

The current Government have already started on Metro West, so the coverage is the same. All you are doing with the Labor plan is getting less.

It's also a political lie that Labor can build West Metro any faster. The best they can offer is to stick with the plan the Government puts forward. In fact if they change it in any meaningful way (alignment, stations etc) from what the Government are planning it will be guaranteed to be delivered slower. Possibly a lot slower if they really hack away at it as their Transport shadow minister has suggested.

The Bankstown Metro is basically ready to go now. The planning and design is nearly done. It's really just waiting for the city component to reach Sydenham. Labor want to rip that up to satisfy ex RailCorp execs and local NIMBY. It also has network wide benefits that aren't obvious to the average person. It will provide a big increase in trains to the T8, T2 and lines into Central and make the network more reliable and easy to run. It will also be a big service improvement for the T3 Bankstown line itself and offer better access to areas of major employment.

Its cancellation also removes the chance in the future for a Metro extension to Liverpool. This is important if you really want to see Liverpool grow. It will be more direct and faster than the other options and with a lot more capacity. Another connection to the Western Sydney Airport (besides the planned extension of the just built SWRL) is not more important than this and I doubt will pass a benefit to cost analysis anyway.

Labor don't even have a plan for this $3b investment they are supposed to be making in the existing network (which is dwarfed by what the current Government have put in). It will just be supplied by "experts". Retired RailCorp execs who the SMH like to hold out as experts but whom actually got the network into its current mess.

Labor are offering a terrible Transport plan for the most part and I don't actually have any faith they will build any of it anyway. History shows this and the comments from the current Labor politicians show me they haven't changed one bit. It's a shame the general public won't be able to understand this.
