Certain street names conjure up certain feelings to people. Be it precious stones, religious etc.

You'll probably find these street names in newer suburbs or wealthy areas with magnificent houses.

I think there is a premium when buying/selling properties with such street names.

No different really to certain number plates eg IL61OW (is one I saw awhile back and sticks to mind)

Something to consider I suppose as it could add value.

I prefer Datto Lane. I kinda fit in lane ways.

A new subdivision a while back had a street name called Feakle Bend. So bad.

I agree. I would rather live on a street with an upbeat name than downbeat.

My parents keep looking at houses on Blight Street in Davoren Park, SA. If you are going to buy a house in one of Adelaide's worst suburbs, please don't buy on Blight Street.

There's 'Blood Alley' next to the Westfields at Mt Druitt and 'Muggers Lane in Emerton.

    I thought @datto had named these. ;)

I came across a house on a Cemetery Rd and wondered if that could have a negative effect on prices or rentability. It was a long road and the actual cemetery was down the other end.

    Not necessarily.

Estate in Logan area with streets named after gems - Diamond, Pearl, Ruby etc. Turned out estate was built on old gold mining area. Toxic tailings bubbled to the surface and poisoned land and a number of houses affected. Some resumed and demolished!

A friend of mine lived in Paradise Avenue, Avalon. I always thought that was pretty close to a perfect address. It was a fabulous house, too, waterfront with a boatshed and jetty.

    Good points.

I suppose one has to look at the area very carefully.

I've recently been involved in the background for some discussions with the Geographical Names Board (the mob who give you the nod on street/suburb names).

Currently, to avoid confusion, they knock back alot of proposed street Lois Street they'd possibly allow Lois Lane behind it but they wouldn't grant a Lois Road etc a few km away.

Many sporting legends also protect the use of their names eg. being located in Chappell, Thompson, Lillee or Marsh St around a central oval would add value to a precinct (though you need to get permission from the families to support their usage.

I have one that people laugh at, get's a bit tiring with the giggles etc......

But there is a bunch I go past that are a real mouthful, I will see if I can remember to note some of them down.

SNM I like that, a property with rear lane access off muggers lane, just a short walk from the local I presume & the quick way home :)

I lived in the Perth suburb of Madeley back in the day and all the streets were named after well-known cricket grounds around the world, have noticed a theme in other locations such as library terms like Book Lane and Text Terrace.

Is this Perth phenom or do other LGAs around the country do similar?
