I've always wondered why the default behavior of a tape measure was to auto-retract. It annoys the **** out of me.

Anyway I searched everywhere and found the solution:

    https://www.totaltools.com.au/71082-bahco-tape-measure-5m-metric-autom-locking-magn-tip-mts525

When I pulled out the tape I was almost giddy with joy and how it stayed out. Yes, I'm easily pleased.

There is an 8m version too. I picked mine up today and could be one of the best additions to my toolbox in quite some time :)

I bought a stainless steel tape measure 15 years ago.
Tapes come and go (crease or rust), but I still have this stainless one :D

And it's still in the original packaging.

My tape measure got stuck on eight inches.

    it wouldn’t retract any less.

My best tape measure story goes back 25 years when one of my fellow sixty-something scout leaders asked me to buy him several Stanley tape measures whilst visiting USA as they would have imperial measurements on both edges. I did.
A while later he was at a DIY shed, was seen to be slipping a tape measure into his pocket and was duly detained as he left the store. He played them for a few minutes, then asked them to show him where these tape measures were and pointed out that his was imp/imp not metric/imp. More than profuse apologies which he regarded as compensation enough.

 If it got stuck, doesn't that mean it wouldn't retract any more either?

$42 for a tape measure is crazy. Just push the button down if you want it locked

Live a little. I find it hard to believe there is anything in this universe that is more worthy of $42.

Very nice. I got a tape measure for my birthday one year but it wasn't as nice as that.
I need to replace my favourite tape measure though as I've lost it Bosch PLR 40 C 40m Distance Measurer With Bluetooth - Bunnings Australia I loved this thing.

Oh I've got a laser tape measure too, Leica. I LOVE it. It's a must-have in anyone's toolbox.

I wanted both - a good laser one and a regular one. Lasers can be a bit of a PITA in some situations, always good to have both.
