Anyone who owns a PPOR in the NT can now receive a 4k voucher for home improvement s/Reno's.... Unbelievable!

Its helicopter money to stimulate the economy.

The deal is you have to use local tradies/companies to do the job. Fair enough.

What to do ou guys reckon about this sort of stimulus? Effective? Waste of money?

Deep in thought as my shiny new patio gets built... :)

4K doesn't go far in Reno land...
Unless of course you are Cherie Barber!

    Either way, free money!

Awesome. That would do a bit for a coesmetic job.

People would probably spend a bit more than the 4K once they started.

Doesn't really add to the productive capacity of the state though.

Better than giving everyone $650 that they go an spend on a chinese produced electronic device. At least it stays local :).

Get in early and find someone reputable. This sort of thing encourages the cowboys to come out and play.

Can see this being rorted up the bum.

What's to stop a home owner who's brother is a sparky saying they did 4k worth of rewiring and just pocketing the money without anything being done?

Cmon Biz, how about a little creativeness? At least the home owner and his brother can bet $2k each on the nose for Winx to come in....

Surely they could build some new roads ? or do some upgrades ? or give some to upgrade hospitals, schools etc

I think it is a stupid way to use money & how unfair to renters ?

The NT Govt scheme seems to compensate up to $4k provided the provider is registered with the scheme (small businesses), the works are approved works and the owner funds at least half. The Govt pays up to 50%. The total works must cost $20K or less to get the $4k.

    Homeowner | Home Improvement Scheme

Just noted the benefit is only for owner-occupied property.

Yeah, I missed that one, if they paid that now I would be gone in a flash......it was also a grant. Some extra grants if you moved a business etc too.

    but

The govt moved offices to regionals, they also need doctors, teachers, trades etc, they also were aiming to free up a spot in the cities to drop some pressure, it was not just a throw away of cash, it also had strict requirements to be met & if you look at the moving costs, for many that is all it would cover.

It had a planned purpose and outcome and something I can see would be worthy for both the city people leave and the town people arrived at, bit different to saying here ya go, here is some money for nothing & BTW, is only for those who own a place.
