    Another one. #Fakenews

If she's speaking over there, it would require more than a tourist visa (just guessing).

She was denied entry first and foremost. This would have been because there was an error with her visa and/or declared activity on the visa.

Any country has the right to deny entry to anybody that doesn't follow that countries requirements.

End of story but no doubt she will beat it up for all it's worth.

Thoroughly fed up with this person.

She made some controversial comment last year on Anzac Day linking offshore detention centres with the phrase 'lest we forget'.

It appears she was trying to enter the USA on a tourist visa (or waiver) despite going there for a paid speaking engagement.

She would have had no trouble had she arranged the correct visa allowing her to work there.

"While US Customs and Border Protection said Ms Abdel-Magied was travelling on the wrong visa, event organisers said she had travelled on that visa for similar events without problem in the past".

Perhaps related to this. From U.S. to Seek Social Media Details From All Visa Applicants

"... social media, email and phone number histories were only sought from applicants identified for extra scrutiny, such as those who have traveled to areas controlled by terrorist organizations. An estimated 65,000 people per year are in that category."

And maybe because she had been allowed to enter despite having the wrong visa on previous occasions may have meant that this time no exception was made?

Just because you get away with something once does not mean that you can continue to do so.

Before travelling to the USA last year we were warned to be very careful to answer all questions accurately to ensure our paperwork was in order.

In other words - "she wasn't caught".

Being black, Muslim and/or female has nothing to do with how she is being treated. Her trying to enter the country under false pretenses and stirring up highly controversial, and often fake, **** would be reasons she is not welcomed with open arms

At least the website has finally been updated... Youth Without Borders

But I still don't quite get what they actually do, as the Initiatives section wasn't able to be drilled down on.

Site loads fine for me. They have four main initiative focuses and appear to have a diverse board.

Meh, the fact that she got deported has nothing to do with her race but everything to do with her ignorance. The visa waiver program is for visit purpose only, if she want to give (paid) speech, she needs a different type of visa. Just because she got away with it previously does not mean it is not illegal.

Another example is that, Australian passport holder can get visa exemption when visit Indonesia for up to 30 days however paid employment is forbidden. So under this visa if I want to go rest on a beach in Bali that's fine but if I want to go teach yoga and get paid then I'm in violation of local immigration law.

    Pure stupidity, nothing else.

    It's not completely straightforward.

A person entering the US as a visitor is allowed to have paid speaking engagements, provided that it's expenses plus an honorarium. There have been cases where people have been refused access to the US where officers have been unaware of the regulations.

However, there is a limit to the number of these within a time limit. A person who has spoken x times in y months on an expense plus a little basis may get refused because x + 1 puts them over the limit.

It may also be that she was being paid in excess of limits. Or that she did not reveal the purpose of her visit. With an unusual name, it would be very easy for an immigration officer to find out that a person was, in fact, speaking at engagements.

Plus there is the social media vetting which has been in use and which is probably going to be greatly expanded in scope.

The part of this that annoys me is her sense of entitlement.

Anything that does not goes her way is immediately labelled racist, or blamed on her being a “young, black, Muslim woman”.
