Jane lost her $670,000 retirement savings to a cyber scam. Here's where the money went They make no promises..
this is very sad but is it a case of people thinking they are smarter? i think its about trust and being suspicious/cynical I dont want to go abouts spending my daily life second guessing or distrusting every one around me from the mail man to the bank rep to my real estate agent I recently transferred a large amount of money to my real estate agent to cover for repairs from an insurance claim, I didnt question the email I received from him with the bank details, had I got scammed, does that make me dumb?
Damn. No matter what you think of the person's action you do have to feel sorry for them.. I can recall only once receiving a request for funds from a firm I used but after first checking the BSB and a transaction record of a previous payment it looked odd so I rang after getting the contact details from the website. For some reason I forget they had different BSB for specific purposes. It was legit. How far do you take precautionary measures before paranoia sets in?
And unless im mistaken if youve transferred to the wrong account and the account exists, they have no legal obligation to return it to you, and the only thing you can do is to "request" them to return it which will cost $50, of which they can ignore you, and the only way to force it back is to go through the local courts!
