Failing to get an old HG Monaro 6 cylinder on the cheap I would second choice go a 1970 HG Brougham. With a Toyota 2JZGTE engine swap. Because unleaded, fuel injected, twin turbo will give the real steel some much required GIDDYUP!

Looks awesome mate, love those old school benz. Just make sure you buy any parts you need for it online, you can save up to 10 times the price that the Mercedes spare parts store in Australia would charge. Also take it to a merc specialist for any work needed or at a pinch even just a average joe mechanic as I'd say it'd be quite simple to work on, don't ever go to the stealership for a service!

Otherwise just keep that star in the middle of the road and enjoy!

Takes me back to childhood that one.
But we aren't investing in them are we? Just listing cool cars we would like to own that don't cost a bomb. But after a quick Carsales search 6cyl Monaro start at 45k and Brougham start at 30k. So I'm out.

I've laid down the challenge that the title implied. I'm happy to share purchase cost when there is a contender :)

Just as my new car is :p. Here is a paragraph from a note I send to my Mazda dealer:

I am now the very proud owner of a brand new MX5 GT 2L. This car is pure nonsense, it's impractical with a boot space that would struggle to fit a small swiss cheese, it's silly in that it only has 2 seats and it's noisy with the roof down. Essentially, this car is EXACTLY what I need it to be, not only do we use the car to go for adventures, the car IS the adventure, even driving to work now is an adventure.

He is going to post it to their social media :D

90's Toyota Cressida for me, throw out the 7mge BHG monstrosity and through in a JZ. Fast and sleeper with all the mod cons and still be a family car. Most of all still rear wheel drive ;)

@Bran I love that is makes you happy and giggle. Driving to and from work SHOULD be fun and if your car makes that happen then that is fantastic!!
My little fun giggly '72 Karmann Ghia does that. We call it the clown or noddy car because it's ridiculously small but it's so fun (just not on a 40 degree day with no air con)
