Some folks definitely are too stingy. IMHO once you get past the summry, superficial information, it's time to cough up and pay for specific advice. You gotta respect others folk's time.

Settings, Privacy - Untick conversations from.
    Untick posts to profile
    Untick alerts
    I dont follow threads
    Untick contact details "accept conversations"
I also extensively declutter PC by disabling many things like ads, etc. A perk of business membership.
NEVER link external accounts. Google, FB and twitter are *******s.

I block PMs as any question that is private is a work issue and I dont offer to work for free. I also have a strict rule on my email address. If they mention PC I will not read the inevitable thread copied in or reply. They just get a brief - I dont reply to PC matters by work email but do welcome questions like that from actual clients. PC stays on PC and its public posts in keeping with a forum. I also have blanket rule of not giving personal advice. It can be monotonous saying "seek personal tax advice" but that has to be. I try and highlight complexity and some key issues and when someone asks - what would you do you know what I will say. I always take the view my job as adviser is to explain choice and guide a good choice. I dont tell people what to choose. Never ask me what I would do. My work details are there. And we have ways and means to filter time wasters v genuine people who seek help and accept fees could occur. Most are fine and we are more generous than most incl free initial consults and I have met many clients that way. I dont ask or expect thanks as its sometimes like relying "ok" to every sms and IMO detracts from PC.

    The Terry Indicator

When Terry starts replying to posts again, you know the market is tanking.

Probably a very good strategy. Many are 'one post wonders', then disappear. PM'ing several people rather than putting up a thread (which has been answered time and time again in various permutations).

The brand-newbies who don't take a few minutes or brain cells to SEARCH for answers to their questions before spamming with new threads are what I find bothersome.

I literally spent months trawling through Somersoft before I dared ask a single question (and I think you needed 10 posts before you could start a thread..?). And I learned so, so much from the shared wisdom - and continue to every time I check in here.

Almost every question has been addressed if you just invest the time to look.
