IMO it is disproportionately expensive for what it is... It is an adorable place, but a little hippy/folky for my liking. There are a few places south of Huonville that have similar village like Franklin. The further south you go the cheaper it gets ;)

Thanks for the insight. Not a region of southern Tasmania I am familiar with.

Just about anywhere south of Hobart you get water views in one direction and snow-capped mountains in the other. I have stayed with friends in Franklin, Cradoc and Judbury. They were snowed in yesterday but if I was retired I would be travelling around the mainland at this time of year anyway. I have also been told (I haven't checked the accuracy) that northern Tass is much warmer in general than southern, it stands to reason. We will be checking out the north east more closely this visit. I am not interested in the blizzards on the western side.

Make sure you go to MONO, Larry. It's the most amazing building I have ever been in - the art is okay, too. I have been to MONA 8 times I think.

It's closed on Tuesdays, I think. You can drive there, or go on their boat.
In Hobart I always also get some food from the Wursthaus Kitchen. It has great stuff.

And make sure you go up Mount Wellington. On a clear day it really is a spectacular view.

    Great place to visit :)

Not sure I'll be investing there in the near future though.

Everyone south of Hobart was snowed in yesterday as the two ways to get to the CBD were closed! It was FREAKY having snow that low. I was only able to get to work at lunch time.

    Enjoy!
Salamanca Markets are on the weekend
There's an awesome cafe in Salamanca called SMOLT which does great brekkie... It's located next door to the Tassal Salmon store.
Battery Point restaurants on Hampden Rd.
Love that place, not to mention Bruny Island which has a cheese factory, smokehouse and oyster farm called Get Shucked!

I've never been to Tasmania before. Sounds like somewhere I should put on my bucket list for a holiday though.

My folks live in Geeveston, but they work in the area - Dad used to have to commute to North Hobart and Mum used to take the drive to Dover - daily....

I can't imagine Vince's Saddle in the ice....

My parents own an IP in Huonville that we lived in temporarily whilst the new PPOR was being built... I was 18 at the time an on my P plates... During winter I was not allowed to travel to the city (for uni) unless the sun was up! So I had to organise to stay at my grandparents in the Channel! I am not sure when you visited last BUT a few years ago the cleared a lot of the trees down the bends (between Vince's Saddle down to Sandfly turnoff) so that has really helped as the roads get a lot more sun! So it is greatly improved... Soooo many people seem to commute such crazy distances... I am currently commuting 45 minutes and it is killing me! To the point where I have started inviting myself to a friends who lives 10 minutes from work.

I'm in Hobart with my family this week. Nice city. Just got back from Mt Wellington.
