40% preferred to stay in Airbnb.

A good indicator for an investing strategy.

    Intersting

Might make an intersting option for our four pack in Newtwon , but not sure SWMBO would want the extra work that would go with it , especially from Sydney .

And if Tasmania gets more attention overseas, naturally those tourists will want to also come to Sydney and perhaps Melbourne, Brisbane and some of the other Australian cities too. :)

I find that comparison hilarious...you can compare Sydney and Melbourne to NY but to compare Tasmania....you have to be kidding...sure it is nice...but not many people would have that on their bucket lists from a global perspective.

Is this more promotion of Tassie?

I watched the movie Lion, which I highly recommend, set in Tassie, I must say this was a magnificent promotion for Tassie the scenery was spectacular.

I probably would not compare, however, I really think Tassie is becoming very much in vogue/popular, its image has changed from sleepy undesirable to a must do/bucket list destination.

    I saw this too!

Makes sense for Millennials (18-34's) to choose a tourism location like Tasmania as a preference for their (domestic) travel.

I say this because this age group have grown up in an environment of a rapidly homogenised global "culture". I.e., all of the stereotypically 'favourite' destinations for travel have become.. well... much the same as everywhere else. I.e. "trending restaurant, sterile shopping strip - think Forever 21, Uniclo, Prada, Gucci etc., overcrowded dirty beach, honking horns traffic, branded cafe chains" etc.

Tasmania offers an escape from all that. Quality food and wine is of course a big feature but it feels much more natural, organic, and less, well, 'try-hard' than those other locations. Plus there's the natural landscape and wilderness with trails that aren't heaving with too many people, too much rubbish, and too many busloads of tourists creating a wall of noise!

God, I should working in marketing for Tourism Tasmania or something :/

Agree here. Just watch out for the self drive foreign tourists who are looking out the side windows rather than the front windscreen, and often veering across the road

When I have visited Tassie, I have been surprised at the number of Asian tourists in particular across a number of places - Freycinet, Huon Valley, Launie, Strahan,,,

No , already bought . Have a block of four units in New Town ( our only left over from previous cycle ) and two multi rental properties in Launnie around one year ago . Have posted about those on multiple occasions . Both bought at or below price previous owners paid around 8 years ago and renting around 8 % .. In central well located positions .

there are several posts on Launceston , Hobart and Tasmania going over the last year.

From what I've heard , there are cash flow deals still available in nice areas in Launceston

I live in Melbourne and can fly overseas to Tassie for sometimes $50 return.

Have never been! I really need to lift my game. This is on my "I'm doing it I don't give a sh## list this year".

Having toured all over Tassie in a camper and on motorcycle, there's little doubt it offers great tourist appeal. I've yet to find anywhere else in Australia with such a compact and diverse range of wonderful natural beauty, combined with a relaxed, slower paced atmosphere. Importantly not stupidly over populated/crowded. What you can see and do in Tassie over two weeks is hard to match.

Tasmania made the Lonely Planet's top 10 destinations a few years back. Are you asleep, @sash.

I can spend two weeks in Tasmania for less than a week at Surfers, including the travelling. Give me fresh air and clean seafood any day.

BTW the article is not comparing Tasmania to NY at all.
