I think the trick is to move as much as you can ie walking at brisk pace..at least $10-15K steps a day. That and eating less - to the point where you're always a tad hungry without actually starving. I try to walk everywhere that's < 2-3kms away.

Did the first workout swim today ... 12 lengths of a 50m pool ... so water unfit! Be a legend by the end of the summer tho. I walk around 40-50 solid minutes in the morning with the dogs, and then always up and down during the day itself. The hips improve with the exercise but excruciating first thing in the morning before I get moving

I'm hoping the 10kg lost this year will help ... 5 more to go

Lots of talk of magnesium in here.

    Just a couple of thoughts/PSA:
    • Lots of different types of magnesium supplements exist (oxide through to L-threonate), each varying in quality and price.
    • If your supplement contains Magnesium Oxide, then bin it - the bioavailability is poor and you're ******* your money away.
    • For sleep use Magnesium Glycinate - the ultimate relaxer magniesum (I like Doctors Best brand on iherb) - I sleep so well after this.
    • For daytime use I like Magnesium Malate (general supplementation without the drowsiness). I think my brand is source naturals (iherb).
    • They say magnesium threonate is great for depression, anxiety and as a general nootropic. It's one of the best quality forms but is $$$. I haven't tried it.
    • Magnesium citrate is good for bowel movements.

also note that magnesium and calcium compete for absorption. Many Mg supplements contain calcium for this reason.

Also this one is really important to those that have not take Mg supplements before:
    • Magnesium citrate is good for bowel movements.
Like, seriously, build up to it. Dont just start taking Mg supplements cold.

I used to have horrific planter fasciitis - to the point where in the morning I would be hobbling around like a cripple when I got up in the morning for a good 40min-1hr until my foot stretched enough/I got used to the pain and could walk more normally. Any sort of activity on my feet would aggravate it and make it worse. Then I started playing indoor soccer, and in the grand final I felt what I thought was someone kicking me in the sole of my foot, hard! I didnt get to look at my foot for several hours, and when I finally took my shoe off, the entire underside of the arch of my foot was a terrible dark purple. Long story short, I tore the ligament that comes down from the inside of your ankle to the plantar. I consulted some specialists but held off intervention to see how it would heal by itself, and in the end the little bit of additional scar tissue means I no longer have plantar fasciitis :)

Cant recommend it as a treatment though!

    Cheers,
    Inertia.

I have read 2 really good books on this topic lately:

    Lifespan by Dr. David Sinclair
How Not To Die by Dr. Michael Greger

David Sinclair works in the field of aging research, his book is extremely detailed and quite technical on what is happening on a microcellular level as we age.

Michael Greger runs a not for profit called NutritionFacts.org, which reviews medical literature related to the impact of diet on our health. He attributes the causes of the main age related diseases/killers (heart disease, stroke, diabetes, many cancers) to the standard western diet high in processed foods, saturated fats, sugar, salt, too much meat etc. His book is also backed by a ton of science, it has about a hundred pages of references to the scientific literature.

As a result I have incorporated several changes to my diet. I have now gone essentially vegan on a whole foods/plant based diet. It might sound extreme to some but the science behind it is very compelling. I'm also supplementing with NMN and Resveratrol, both recommend by David Sinclair. These are proven molecules that activate pathways in the human body that actually reverse certain cell damage that causes ageing.

I'll be 40 next year, time will tell if this will help!

Biggest symtom of getting older is an increase to one's waistline

This is a sure sign your metabolism is slowing, and it is all down hill from there:confused:
Weight gain/carrying weight is the single biggest contributor to health issue's :(

If you can realise this at any point and change your lifestyle (more natural foods and exercise) you can live a more comfortable better life

Sure, your dna determines so many things, but it is really your everyday actions that count

For when they come on try having something with a strong taste about as a different approach if magnesium isn't having an effect. It's basically the theory behind why pickle juice is used by some athletes, there's a link below with some info.

Weird , but my whole life l've kind of looked forward to getting older and old , not that l was in any hurry mind you not saying that, but l've just always thought it'd be a really nice time in life.
Problem is though as you get older you lose or see parents and others start getting sick past a certain point and realize the down sides of it too once health starts to go. And watching many other things go too like just life and something to go on for which you see in so many older people too.

So lately l've thought 75ish would probably be a good time to get out of here , get out while the gettings still good , a nice swift heart attack or something. Or like my ex's grand father, he was a farmer and he loved he's farm and his life, wife and family. But at 70 they told him he's heart was kaput and he could go any day. So he went back home to his farm and family , and just went on enjoying life and his farm , family , as much as he could for another 5yrs . And then one day at 75 he just went for a long walk , out around the farm, he knew it'd be too much for his heart. He walked to his fav log way over in the back of the farm and hills, sat on the log and keeled over. For 50yrs he'd been stopping by that log to sit , when he'd b out checking the farm or doing his work.
Call the shots when the time comes, way to go.

Try Tuli’s heel cups (the pale green version). I pay around $21 from a physio supply place in Melbourne.

They give excellent relief from plantar fasciitis when walking.

Yeah but l'll miss that boat, l do believe though it won't be that far away .
But then they'll be complaining bc they can't feed 50billion people.
On the 150 though , yeah l don't know. How is the human mind ,brain , memory absorption , gonna cope with 120-30 or 50 yrs of living. Most in their 80s are pretty well out there or well on their way. My ex has worked in nursing homes 20 yrs and always said they've usually had enough and just want out. lmagine if the doc said ahhh, sorry , we're gonna keep you around another 70yrs yet , give me a gun.
Of course l know they'll be in much better condition at 80 , we'd hope, by the time we can last 150 , but man that would still be one helluva long life.
But eh , l'll see what's happening at 75 and take it from there, maybe l'm good for another 30 by then haha.

Well seriously, yeah if my health deteriorated beyond a certain point, then I'd want to check out too, and quickly. Uplifting thread this haha.
