Is that a typo? Should that be "He's right Epping there!"?

That is kind of the point of a metro system - you can squeeze far more people on board with most of them standing up than you can by having most of them sitting like the old double-decker trains.

The frequency of trains is designed to minimise overcrowding, but at peak capacity, you should expect sardine-like conditions.

Absolutely - a lot of people heading to Chatswood, St Leonards or North Sydney from suburbs on the Northern Line and surrounding area, would be much quicker to hop a bus or train to Epping, metro to Chatswood and then North Shore line to destination.

When I started catching trains to Epping for the meetups there, I was surprised at just how big the station was and how many people got off there in the evenings.

From House prices boom in suburbs along Metro Northwest train line - realestate.com.au

House prices boom in suburbs along Metro Northwest train line

The CoreLogic figures, revealed by The Daily Telegraph, show Castle Hill’s median house value has grown the most, by 89 per cent, from $669,754 in April, 2008, to $1,264,215 in April 2019. Rouse Hill followed with a 88 per cent rise, from $527,530 to $993,047.

Bella Vista had a 78 per cent change, up from $695,785 to $1,237,020; while Kellyville jumped 74 per cent from $577,815 to $1,003,499.

The national average change over the 2008-2019 period for houses is 33 per cent — or $403,594 to $535,738.

On average of some nearby comparable sales, my own property near the metro at Rouse Hill would be up 78% on the 2013 contracted build price. That's just 6 years so buying and building close to the station worked out to be a nice investment.

    Edit - added an extract.

Glitches fail to deter commuters as 546,000 people board metro trains

    https://www.smh.com.au/national/nsw/glitches-fail-to-deter-commuters-as-546-000-people-board-metro-trains-20190528-p51rua.html

    From the article:

More than 72,000 commuters on average travelled on Sydney's new $7.3 billion metro line each day during its first working week despite teething problems dogging some services, making it almost as busy as the Eastern Suburbs rail line.

And experts say patronage could surpass 100,000 a day by mid next year as more people who previously drove opt for metro trains and as high-rise residential apartments near the line open.

Including the 140,000 people who took advantage of a fare-free day on May 26, when the 36-kilometre Metro Northwest line opened, figures from Transport for NSW show the total number of passengers who rode on the driverless trains in the first week totalled 546,359.

My whole family went to Chatswood for dinner tonight. Tried to take the metro home and half of us had the doors shut on us! I think the doors only stayed open 20 seconds. So half the family got on the train, the other half had to wait for the next one...

Station staff have no control over the doors being open or closed.

Just think, the train could have easily left a kid on the platform or on the train by themselves...
