I've been in Katoomba in the middle of winter a few times. I'd not want to have just louvres between me and the Katoomba winter :eek::eek:

We really have no idea up here in Brisbane. Cold is when you have to put on a jumper. We've go no real idea of cold.

Yeah I spent 12 years in SE Asia. Some people would put jumpers on if the temperature plummeted below 25 degrees. I must confess, I do prefer seasons.

The description for this house states the glass is high tech Viridian, which is likely low E and hence very effective at keeping winter heat in. We have similar Enerlogic tinting on our Canberra area single glazed windows and it works a treat for keeping rooms warm.

I am loving how this post/story unfolds, from a dead body ... to cold weather in Katoomba, Krakow, SE Asia, Canberra .:p

I am living 10-15 min walk from the subject property, yeah...perhaps good idea to change topic :D

What's that main street in Katoomba, really steep with heaps of coffee shops and whacked out artists lol reminds me of Silverton in a way.

    Wouldn't that be Katoomba Street?

Could be. Guess I'll have to do the leg work and check it myself.

Presumably named for Thomas Mort of Goldsborough Mort & Co. (cf. warehouse apartment blocks at Darling Harbour, Teneriffe etc.), one of Australia's most prominent industrialists.

Could've renamed it Mortgage St. today, but...

I guess it was likely named after him or someone like him but it doesn't matter who it is named after. I just think "death". Maybe they should have used his full name.

Street names can be most unfortunate.

Agreed! For example, Morts Road in Mortdale doesn't sound anything like as bad, and even Mort's Dock and Mort Bay sound kind of alright by comparison. Given the originality of Aussie naming conventions I expect there must be more.

FWIW, having bought Surry Hills terraces in the past the buyers have gotten plenty excited here on a price/sqm basis. Mort is a pleasant street (name notwithstanding) but by the time they have forked out for the reno work I expect their all-in cost will be more like the equivalent of a 3 bedroom terrace on 100sqm block.

Still, I guess that's Surry Hills for you.

That haunted Richmond houses is amazing. I'd think it a shame if someone "does it up". I hope they leave the outside "as is" (kind of dirty and Adams Family) even if they renovate inside.
