Saw that the public can have a say in naming the new ferries. No, "Boaty McBoatface" wont win cause the names have to be submitted into a category.. ;D

So anyway, I submitted "Catherine Hamlin", "Fred Hollows" and "Victor Chang", all famous Sydney medical practitioners making the world a better place. (I suppose we could all suggest "@See Change" and "@Simon Hampel", "@datto", "@skater") as names too, though how some of the above will fit into the categories... hmmm.... very loose connection at best. ;)

    Name your ferry

    The categories as per website:
    Category A
    Arts and Culture

Celebrating the talented, creative people who have helped shape and define Sydney’s artistic character, this category is based on the visual arts, literature, and performance communities.

    Category B
    Science, Environment and Innovation

Inspired by our state’s visionaries, this theme profiles the people who have redefined the way we live, from medical advances and environmental research to globally resonant engineering and architectural design.

    Category C
    Sydney Harbour Connections

Recognising our city’s history, industry, trade and supply routes, this category is all about the unity between city, coast and land; from our glittering foreshore to the rugged beauty of our rural towns.

Personally, I prefer not to see names of athletes or politicians. There are people who have contributed significantly in the community but are not known to public. I really had enough of athletes, politicians and people who don't really have talents becoming celebrity. Seriously how did kardashians become celebrities? What musical, literary and artistic values have they contributed? Pop culture?

I hate to burst your bubbles, by all means you can make fun suggestions however I highly doubt they would get through because there's a committee that will choose the finalists....

If our ferry service is international standards but no one wants it then - Jarryd Hayne!

How does the "Clover Moore" sound to you? She'd fit in the environment/innovation category for me (also in the arts criteria too), even though she's in government. Sydney's becoming a great city again with her local government leadership.

There's always a gem in my posts, sometimes they're on the surface, sometimes you have to dig.

I just cant think of a name that has ridden the taxpayers of NSW so hard in the last 10 or 20 years that said taxpayers would get to ride back as payback every day, but there must be more than one.

    Oh, the irony...
