    Wednesday 1st August
    The Royal Hotel - Sutherland
    From 6:30pm.

    ---------------------------------------

It’s been a while since members from the Shire and other members willing to make the trip met up.

Anybody want to get together one evening maybe in the first week of August?

Date is optional depending on availability.
We can finalise something if there is enough interest.

Given we are already past the mid-point of July, do you perhaps mean "early August" ?

    Title fixed.

I'd be keen to make the trip down - the earlier in August the better for me and Wednesdays would be my personal preference (but whoever takes on the organisation of it gets to choose!).

I'm cool with Wed August 1st. That's just under two weeks away. Considering the last one was done within 48 hours, I think it can work ;)

Was there a preferred venue identified? I recall there were quite a few suggestions.

Yeah @The Falcon had a few suggestions.
Mine were chosen close to train stations, but I think most people drove in anyway.

I only request for a quiet place. I struggle to hear in pubs/clubs even with bionic ear

Here are some suggestions from previous thread:
    @ShireBoy
    Engadine: Tavern or RSL
    Sutherland: Royal hotel or Boyles.
    Jannalli: ?
Menai: Club Menai or Bangor Hotel
    Gymea: Gymea Hotel
Miranda: RSL or Miranda Hotel (Carmens)
    Caringbah: ?
    Taren Point: The Point
    Wolloware: ?
    Cronulla: Northies

    @The Falcon
Best non depressing pub/club venues in the shire I reckon would be:
RMYC Port Hacking (no public transport)
    Cronulla Golf Club (ditto)
Como Hotel (about 5 minute walk from station)
Highfield @ Caringbah (5 mins walk from station).

    @Athikalaka
St George Motor Boat Club is nice...no transport other than buses but there is a courtesy bus for members.

@Simon Hampel extra tips on venu selection:
Some suggestions to keep in mind:
    1) venue has to be quiet enough to be able to actually have a conversation, especially for a larger group with multiple conversations going at once - so pubs or venues which play loud music or have frequent announcements in the background are not ideal.
    2) good food is kind of important.
    3) easy parking and/or public transport helps - preferably both. If no public transport, then parking is of course, critical.
    4) it would help if they actually stayed open fairly late, since sometimes you just want to keep talking.
    5) stay clear of places which won't let you pay separately - I've been at a meetup at a restaurant with over 20 people and they wouldn't let us pay separately. Was a major PITA to sort out.

    Other options:
The Prince Hotel - Kirrawee, which I think is run by the same group as Highfield at Caringbah, not sure of the noise levels though.
Would Tradies at Gymea be an option? They have various areas for dining and talking.

Plenty of options there to choose from.

@Ace in the Hole ... if you are organising it, you get to choose :p

I don't know any of the venues, so I can't make any recommendations. Perhaps just choose one and we'll give it a go?

Open to suggestions over the next few days before it's decided.
Probably go with the majority vote.
I've not really organised one of these before.
I don't even know if you have to book tables, but guess it depends on the venue.

I'll go through the list tonight and see what events are on for each venue. Worst is that we clash with a trivia event.
True story: I used to have a spreadsheet with all this information back when I was a trivia fiend. Which venue had trivia/poker/bingo on which night, and also schnitty specials haha.
Might have to see if I still have it, or start it again.

ShireBoy, you seem to know your venues...
I don't get out too much so probably best if you make the call.

Vote 1 The Royal @ Sutherland.

Best food, best price, best service. You likely won't finish your plate especially if you pick the shnitty.
Big long tables or split 'em up.
Central for all comers, across the road from the station. Bus hub.
    No music in the restaurant.
4 Pines on tap. Good selection apart from that.
Pay when you order so no bill dramas.
Best to book if more that 5 or a Friday night.

I've had the rest, Royal's the best!

Disclaimer: 1 station train ride for me.

Hmm ... it may even be quicker for me to catch the train there rather than driving from the north shore through peak hour traffic! Could be a good choice.

That's a glowing review there, @vudu but I agree. Had lunch there just two weeks ago ;)
