    Hi,

I am moving to Melbourne in three days and being an Taiwanese Australian I do like to visit Sunnybank in Brisbane everyonce in a while plus certain foods are only available there.

What's the equivalent of Sunnybank/Sunnybank Plaza in Melbourne?

IMHO for the the Taiwanese enclave, Doncaster, Doncaster East, Blackburn ~ maybe stretching out to Templestowe (more like Robertson).

Box Hill/Glen Waverley stretch is Asian but I think is more the HK and Mainlands.

    Springvale/Keysborough/Richmond/Footscray/Maidstone more the Vitenamese.

Having said that, shopping wise, Box Hill and Springvale would be more like S/B Plaza.

    Doncaster is like Garden City.

    Thx Y-Man,
Can you suggest a Taiwanese/Chinese shopping centre, similar to Sunnybank Plaza (hopefully with a good grocery store) to visit?

Box Hill Central - it's like Sunnybank Plaza on steroids.

I was in Footscray last week and noted there are African bar and rest among Vietnamese and Chinese restaurants.

Box Hill, Glen Waverley and Springvale are popular suburbs for Chinese.

Of all those, Box Hill is probably the nearest equivalent to Sunnybank if you're looking for Asian grocers/restaurants etc.

For Chinese (mainland, Taiwanese, Malaysian etc)

    Box hill central
    Doncaster
    Glen Waverley shopping strip
    Preston high st

I personally think Springvale and Footscray is more Vietnamese than chinese

Yes, but if you go there, the general feel of Sunnybank Plaza and Market Square across the road is more like B/H Central or Springvale Central (minus the Vietnamese).

Ok, a very recent development for Doncaster East to make it more Asian friendly: KFL has opened a big grocery store next to Maccas on the corner of Blackburn and Doncaster Roads.

    KFL SUPERMARKET

Another name for Box Hill is Bok Hill, which references the bok choy (in case you didn't pick up on that).
