Latest news is that I looked at the nice little stash of cash we have sitting in the bank and decided to keep it there... in the bank. I love the Mazdas, thanks for all the suggestions. Now to decide petrol or diesel. Too hard to decide, so
Our Subaru is going to get the last remaining bits done to totally upgrade everything and i will think about buying a newer car in a few more years after we sell an IP and can pay all cash. The thought of using savings for a deposit and taking out a loan made me sick to the core.

Probably not a popular pic as a suggestion for a new car for many here, but I like the newest Jag. Probably a lemon, but I like its understated elegance and style
Bit of a poser car, but not too many of them around, unlike other high end brands; one day... Jaguar.jpg

My boss in 1981 had a lovely silver-blue Jag. I had to drive his daughters to kindy and school in it. He drove me to my wedding in it. I also got to wash it for him most Mondays.

Bought a 2016 Jag. XE 20d R-Sport last week, 43,000 km on the clock, 5 year warranty and servicing plus other extras, as new.

A pleasure to drive and has good reviews, it is the same as the picture below.

Is it too rude to ask how much you paid? Or rough figure

It makes no sense to buy new, its taken me some time to work this out

@MTR, there are a heap of extra features on the car and I believe it was about $80,000 new, I paid $32,900.

There are some amazing bargains to be had on luxury cars a few years old, sometimes with a new manufacturer warranty... Often these are lease vehicles owned by those out to impress.. until the lease runs out.

Do obviously have to be a bit careful of ongoing maintenance (might involve buying parts overseas, and getting them fitted at independent specialists), also maybe a 100k car now worth 50k seems like a bargain now, but it could also be 20k a few years after that too.

Very nice @turk . Never thought I would purchase a Jag but I just joined the Jag family also. Just put a deposit on a new F-Pace SVR. Took one for a drive and that engine and sound it makes sold me the car. Should get it in a week or 2.

    No, I told a lie.

Today we bought a TTD Akera in Meteor Grey. The paperwork should be done mid week.
    Thank you Dan!

Having a diesel, my husband is now committed to taking me for a drive up the coast every weekend.... He also mentioned yesterday that straight away after I relented two weeks ago and agreed to buy a new car, the "funny noise" in the Subi motor (that I never heard) has "gone away".

I've had a Kia Sorento SLi for 7.5 years now. Very comfortable, very reliable, big boot when I need it. Thoroughly recommend it.

don't buy an SUV its expensive to run and expensive to buy, buy a wagon or estate,
suv/awd are for offroading, school run with one is pointless,

if you want a city-run around buy an hatchback not a crossover.

SUV doesn't automatically mean four wheel drive? We have an SUV and it is not made or meant to be taken off roading. It's just a small wagon.

I just learned this when we switched to it and my son said I'd bought an SUV. I insisted I'd not bought a 4WD. He patiently explained to me that they are not one and the same and that the car we just sold (another wagon) also is called an SUV. It was news to me, but I googled and he is right.

I will only drive an SUV for a daily. The comfort and high ride cant be matched in anything else.
So I just picked up my new SUV today. The Jaguar F Pace SVR. A little driving time today and so far I am very impressed. Idle and under light acceleration its actually fairly quiet. Put the foot down and the thing absolutely roars.

And yes SUV's cost more to buy and run, but one of my key motivations to invest is so I can use that investment income to buy cars that deliver driving pleasure.
