We have the twin turbo diesel Mazda CX5 (AWD SUV Thing). I would strongly recommend it. The engine is an absolute powerhouse, the twin turbo makes the acceleration feel very linear, it doesn't seem to have that diesel lag that the single and none turbo diesel's have.

Tech is decent and the ride is super smooth (this is coming from someone who's previous car was a Gen V Liberty GT).

C63 AMG - my next car - seems to go ok as a town car anyway.

    or a Koenigsegg Agera RS?

But I think the Merc might be easier to get parts for??

Nissan X-Trail ST-L for a mid size SUV

AWD, 2 tonne towing, CVT (so no tranmission gear hunting), adjustable headlights good for towing.

I dunno....heard a zillion bad things about the Nissan CVTs. I'm sure the rest of the car is lovely but there have been enough gearbox horror stories for me to stay well clear.

@Dan Donoghue has a good point about the CX5 - definately worth putting on the list @Angel !

It's so nice that it's a normal auto box with a good ol' torque converter, I really disliked the CVT (rev your damn head off and don't feel like you are going anywhere) in a few rentals we have had in Sydney and i would go so far as to say I "hated" the DSG we had in the missus's old Ford Fiesta and more recently my Audi.

For me I will choose a standard auto over a DSG with auto clutch and clutch packs or any CVT.

I was thinking stack unicycles as in vertical... I don’t like the back hatch shape, doesn’t look like it makes best use of space.

The same era of Kia and Hyundai will have the same gearbox & engine. Only suspension is tuned differently for Australian conditions and a different body and badges on top.
Kia 7 yr v Hyundai 5 yr standard warranty depending on era of vehicle you are looking at.
Either a solid choice if not too old a model and suggest Kia if you can get some warranty still remaining.
If towing caravans etc and travelling in outback would not recommend CVT or DSG boxes.
    Good luck!

I love the Outback and have a 2009 model. Just recently had to pay out $3k in servicing costs though. So many things starting to go on it. I had to wait 3 days for the mechanic to ring around and try and find mufflers that would fit it - cause apparently no-one has mufflers for it these days (the car has two of them).
But I love it and always have. They are great little cars.

What about a Skoda Octavia or Superb wagon. Lots of kit, can get AWD and can tow quite a respectable amount also.
