    Hi all,

I have had some demolition work done at a site in Ipswich, and it included removing a tree which was a few metres away from my house. The demolition guys chose to stump grind rather than use an excavator as it was close to the house, however the tenant tells me the house shook when they were working.

Now there is a small crack in the ceiling (nothing I haven't seen before) and there is a gap inbetween the house slab and the front verandah. Ipswich is known for having 'black soil' so I'm guessing the house had just moved a bit, but I think I should get someone to inspect the structure and ensure there is no major damage and it won't get worse.

Any recommendations on who to speak to?

    Thanks

Building inspector would be able to give you some idea, may be able to help. Technically, a structural engineer.

I'd talk to the council, see if someone in their building compliance division can give you some basic advice first.
