Most storm water pumps are simple centrifugal pumps.

It can either get blocked or breakdown.

To avoid blocks keep regularly inspecting (every 6 months) the pit and get is cleaned out if there is too much silt or debris in it.

    If it stops pumping:
    1. Check if its blocked.
    2. If its not blocked and the motor doesn't spin it might be worth replacing it. Most small pumps will cost more to repair than to replace.

If its running and no rain the problem could be:
    • The pump or pipe is blocked.
    • The pump is under capacity as far as pressure is concerned.
    • You have a leak on a water main
