Does anyone know the cost of realigning a storm water drain?

I am looking at a site in Melbourne which has a big storm water drain running right through it (see picture attached). I am interested to know the cost in realigning this so it runs down the eastern boundary of the site (right hand side of site as pictured) - does anyone know?

The site is approx. 40m deep and 15m wide. I know this would be an expensive exercise, but the site is discounted for that same reason - just trying to work out if it is a feasible option.

    Is it an easement?
    Who is benefitted?
    How wide?
    How big is the pipe?
Do you really need that portion of the land?
    Can you design around it?
How would you divert it without impacting the capacity?

It is an easement approx. 5m wide benefiting the water authority. The pipe is big at 2.36m wide.

We could design around the easement to build a single dwelling, but need the drain moved to allow townhouse development.

I am not sure about whether we can move it without affecting capacity - I'm keen to hear from anyone who has done or attempted this type of project before to determine approximate costs and whether it is even possible. The water authority is saying to put an application in and they will assess it, but I need an estimate sooner.

    whoa big sucker!!
    pipe 2.36 diameter??

have you just started looking at this option? do you have any costs in your head that you'd like to spend $5k, $10k, $50k, $100K

you'll likely need 3 pits to divert it around the perimter @ say $10k each supply install
theres probably 3 weeks work plus new pipe you'll be spending $50k+
plus wont you need to get the easement moved with fancy stamps and fees?

Get a civil contractor to give you a guesstimate.

    Prolly >$100k+

90 degree pits won't cut it, you're talking stormwater channel pipes or culvert required IMHO.

Where's the water go if you have a storm whilst you're building the new one?

$20m public liability insurance won't skim the sides.

just build over it and sort the paperwork out later! :p

youre best not to touch it. and very unlikely council will come to the party with a pipe that size.

call a local civil engineering mob and they'll say to hard basket, unless you have plans for a high rise or something substantail. a granny flat build will be cheaper than realigning that bad boy

Thanks all for your feedback. Spoke to a civil engineer - cost will be over $100k - looking at $2000 per meter of pipe.
