Ah, big “no warranty” warning on that list of course :) haven’t looked for ages, I’m sure my view would be different on some of them.

Ben Carlson and Michael Batnick’s podcast “animal spirits” (on iTunes) is bloody good...a solid resource for deeper insights.

I have also really been enjoying this podcast great topics and a lot to learn I also like that they make the podcast accessible I dont feel as though I need to be a CFA to understand the concepts they are talking about! I liked Meb Fabers podcast episode with Ken Fisher as well..

Newish interview with Jack some good questions like his view on factor investing at around 35 min.. maybe something to think about before I go and buy that new value active Vanguard ETF!

    Some very interesting stats there.

Balanced Fund and Bonds performance over 30 years during the monster Bond bull market is interesting.

Also listed property. It’s probably the time frame but Thornhill’s chart doesn’t seem to present AReit performance fairly?

@dunno, you there? Are you able to check if the above AReit data is correct and apply different time frames?

I’ll be as delicate as I can here...let’s just say that the wrong conclusions can easily be reached from PTs chart. This is not a total return chart, but something else entirely. LPTs with a higher component of shareholder return paid out as distributions will always look terrible in PTs chart. Total return on the other hand is a different story.

    Wow fantastic!
Even though when I first opened it and saw 2.5 hours I let out a moan, he turned out to be such a good presenter, enthusiastic, convincing and full of top notch information that I was engrossed the entire time and couldn't wait for what was coming next. Thanks for posting!

Here is the short version in an article. Video is still worth watching though.
6 steps to the ultimate retirement portfolio

Now I have to find out if there are US and international value ETF's on the ASX.

@Anthony Brew , Merriman’s stuff is pretty exciting when you first see it. If you are interested in this then head over to Bogleheads, lots of discussion on Merriman and “slice and dice” portfolios. It’s a good exercise as it helps you understand correlations. A big caveat though, this is all based on back testing and gives zero consideration to the tax effects of frequent rebalancing. If, after investigation you wanted to assemble a portfolio like this on the ASX it can be done, but without the same level as specificity as NYSE listed products.

Best I could do for TOTAL RETURN comparison chart is for data going back around 26 years. Although given the history of the listed property sector the commencement date of this data is a useful one:

The comparison of Resources vs ASX200 / All Ords vs Industrials Total Return chart is even more stark. Different start dates in that mine is less (26 years ago) but probably more relevant given the composition of the index today. I did query him on this at one stage but didn’t really get a clear answer:

Correct. No surprise the course has been quietly discontinued. That ship is not made for turning.

All the out performance is in that first decade (as you have shown).

    Did not know that.

The importance of multiple view points on this stuff can't be underestimated. Too easy to get caught up in the spell of a good story with plenty of historic data and facts etc.

From memory Peter didn’t choose to stop running the courses it was the Uni. I imagine he’s still running them for advisors etc when requested.

I feel the message is still a good one but the full picture including potential negatives and realistic outcome needs to be presented.
