Yep. My Dad lost a friend when a fire wall on Ash Wednesday killed a number of volunteers. The bloke happened to be my flight instructor too. Very sad.

    Damn, blast and bother.

A friend down East Gipplsand. Evacuated and safe which is a big Phew! and by some miracle his home is OK but everything else is gone. Tractors, sheds, boat, tools, his Mum's old place and his wife's. They are in their 70's so it could be particularly difficult for them to start again.

So sad @SatayKing. Charlottes Pass in NSW are being evacuated now. I assume precautionary at the moment but gee things are bad!

Batemans Bay and surrounding areas now under threat. Been a terrible end to 2019, fire wise.

Hard to put into words they are inadequate.

It was only a short call as he is still trying to get his thoughts together. He got the news from neighbours who decided to stay but he thinks while his home is there now it is possible it won't be as the situation is beyond dire. Got my fingers crossed for him and many others.

Cobargo, Mallacoota and a host of others.

Sadly it won't be a good way to start 2020.

Puts investing into perspective I feel. Neighbour across the road from me said she has been waking up in the middle of the night with worry. Impacts people in different ways despite not being under direct threat.

    Mogo Zoo is under threat.
All animals locked in, sprinklers going to try to save them.
RSPCA can’t get trucks in to rescue them (or some).

Omg :( ... Makes me so angry when Twats carry on about how fires are normal.

Yes they are a part of Australian life, and have been devastating in the past. One here. One there. A week. A few days ...but the entire eastern seaboard ablaze for months is NOT normal.

Reading Dark Emu atm. Fascinating how the traditional peoples used to use regular and extensive "controlled" fire as part of their agricultural practices

Grr. Dry lightning. Not at all welcome obviously.

And a blaze at Tumut. Between there and here is...... tinder dry bush. Possible boom. Skedaddle bag ready and available.

I've got my eye on that one too. Looks like its determined to get to Wagga by hook or by crook. Where are you?
Devastating. I never really understand why people cry about photos when thy've probably lost pets and others. Not to mention all the wildlife, already super-stressed with no water.

Canberra. It may seem odd but when the fires went through here in 2003, at 9 am in the morning it was miles away at McIntyres Hut. By mid-day it was burning on the hill 500 meters behind my then home. So now I am very, very wary.

Merely because a place is big doesn't mean it won't go up in flames. News reported one blaze got into Bateman's Bay too. Bunnings I understand. Hope the firies got it under control.

Now the Hume Highway is closed in both directions at Goulburn.

    Keep a lookout @WattleIdo.

And they're just getting bigger and faster. This one's been out of control for a number of days now. Last week it was under control.
    Thanks. You too.
I have to go away to paint, see family etc but will have to have minimal time away I think.

Do you have a link for that @SatayKing ? I can't find info. Somebody else told be that Googong was affected, but that's not on the NSW RFS website either.

We've just had a report that there's a fire 2km away. There's a lot of bush between there and here.

Bags are going into the car.
