I have some red, blue and yellow spray paint markings in the front verge of an IP.

They look like a services survey:- red (power), blue (water) and yellow (gas). I can't think of any reason for them though.

    Any ideas?

    It is a US site but CBF looing further;

    What do the markings mean?

Many people call us wondering why grass near their home is marked or what the markings mean.

Utility color codes are used to identify existing underground utilities in construction areas with the intent of protecting them from damage during excavation. This is done through flags or a special spray paint, neither of which will cause long-term harm to your lawn.

The American Public Works Association (APWA) Uniform Color Codes for temporary marking of underground utilities are listed below:

    Red
electric power lines, cables, conduit, and lighting cables
    [IMG]
    Orange
telecommunication, alarm or signal lines, cables, or conduit
    [IMG]
    Yellow
natural gas, oil, steam, petroleum, or other gaseous or flammable material
    [IMG]
    Green
    sewers and drain lines
    [IMG]
    Blue
    potable (drinkable) water
    [IMG]
    Purple
reclaimed water, irrigation, and slurry lines
    [IMG]
    White
    proposed excavation limits or route

Very talentless graffiti artists in your area.

Is Perth the only cap city that uses 'verge'?

Cheers @Big Will, that's exactly what I thought.

"Utility color codes are used to identify existing underground utilities in construction areas with the intent of protecting them from damage during excavation."

This is the mystery. Who is constructing and what are they constructing?

You mean there is another name for "verge"? o_O;)

NBN, footpath, road extension, who knows!

My company reports on up coming projects around Australia if you want to PM suburb I can take a look for construction starting soon work that might do it. If you gave a street I would be easier and probably more accurate but I understand due to privacy.

I'd say that are replacing your pole with a metal pole as they are putting more weight on it with a transformer box thingy.

    Just a guess though.

They haven't marked the depths so either crews are coming out to suck down and check or it could be just for design work. Nbn could be most likely but could be anything, anyone that wants to dig a hole has to get some graffiti first :)
Nbn will go through and check what areas they want to drill or manually excavate depending on the access, existing services, driveways etc

Did they do the just your house or close vicinity or the entire street?
