Noticing a lot of people from Darwin moving to Cairns and Townsville. Good move mate better value for money in my opinion. Great schools, great life style, great Uni, more connectivity with flights and jobs market in Cairns seems to be improving. Good luck. Where are you looking specifically? We are based in Darwin moving to Townsville ourself. My wife wanted to go Cairns but Townsville was a bit better for us in terms of work.

weather is a big part of the choice, i love melb but i cant do the cold anymore and the whinging and the traffic! i was reading about edmonton mt stsheridan areas are all bad areas,

what about more south say like innisfauil or anything like that? im a sparky so work for me should be pretty good.

my own opinion Innisfail is not very desirable.
Bit further down the coast at Mission Beach is paradise but im not sure what work prospects are like?
If your prepared to go self employed then you should be fine pretty much anywhere though i reckon or you can find something fly in out of cairns.

My daughter, hubby and kids live on Groote Eylandt. I've visited a few times.
Are you in the Police Force? You probably know them. Message to chat.
we moved to the Gold Coast. Looked further up but thought north of Sunshine was too humid. Plus the stingers and crocs don't excite me.

Have you considered Cairns Tablelands eg Yungaburra or even Speewah/kuranda. All are a a fair bit cooler than Cairns.

I like East Trinity which is 40min from Cairns but some feel it's too isolated

    Nah I haven't actually. I'll have a squizz.
Ive been to kuranda. That Rd to it is a pain in the ass if there is. An accident and that fairly common tbh

If you were closer to Yungaburra/Barrie, then you could probably get away with never going to Cairns, so the road would be less of an issue. Atherton is the major town for services and has most things and there may be enough work that you don't need to look elsewhere.

I live in Edmonton. It’s a big suburb which has some great areas. We back onto a small reserve with a creek bed so rear neighbours and rainforest right off the back fence. The less desirable area is largely the old/original town near the highway.
Forest gardens part of mt Sheridan is actually high demand.

If you don’t need to be near Cairns itself I second mission beach or port Douglas. Tablelands also nice of course.

the sweet spot might be Goldsborough Valley just out of Gordonvale. It’s small acreage blocks and much cooler there than Cairns. I would really consider it if I didn’t have to drive to North Cairns every day.

Feel free to message me if you want to know anything.

i'll check out goldborough valley and the other areas too,
as part of our plan it has to service a caravan too as we have just bought it so it;ll be coming up from melb once were done here so land size is also important! so the kids can run around too :)

With my own hands or through a builder?

Have had a house built in North Queensland but not in the Cairns metro area.

So you’ve got the suburbs on the Southern corridor. But then you’ve also got townships South of Cairns.
