I just got back from Europe. Had amazing meals in Northern Italy. Venice , Corvara and Turino for around $24. I have had fabulous veal dishes in Lygon st Melbourne for under $30 .
Why in the hell do i have to pay $35 for a veal dish at Mario's in Broadbeach Gold Coast or $18.90 for special fried rice at Chiangmai Thai in Broadbeach. Yesterday i waited 45mins to get into buffet at the casino. You would think they were paying you.I tear my hair out trying to find a decent quality good value restaurant on the Coast for around $30 a main.I thought the Gold Coast was trying to attract tourists.

I've noticed the GC has been trying to push their reputation for world class dining.. their strategy must be to up their price and have forgotten about quality.. I don't think I'll ever associate fine dining with the GC.
The fish & chips at Scales on the tweed is always good

vbplease. Funny. We drove down to Scales last week. This place is heaven.. We bought our fish and chips with half a kilo of prawns and sat in the park on the river. Absolute bliss. No decent fish and chips up Broadbeach Waters way. Takes me back to the 60's.
Don't think Brisbane is much better. But what i do like is that you get a decent choice of ethnic food in Brisbane . We don't get that on the coast. Might have to move to Brisbane.

    Here!

Pro tip from someone who lived there for 12-13 years: arrive at 6pm. Parking is easy and no lines. Once you hit 6:30-7pm it’s a madhouse.

Frankee + Co. Springwood. Just across from the 7-11 petrol station and in the same block of restaurants as Little Miss India (4/10), an average Thai place (5/10) and the ridiculously overpriced Coffee Club.

Frankee's food is pretty good if you order the right thing. From my own personal experience you need to stay away from the bagels and pancakes. You will be disappointed. The rest of their breakfast menu is pretty good though. Their coffees are quite solid as well.

You can also try the Bourbon Bar at the Hotel Gloria Springwood. You can laugh at the location, but the food is pretty good except for the Steak Night special. Don't get it even though it's cheap. The Burgers are great and the bloke who runs it is very friendly. It deserves more patronage.

    Another tip to add:
Whatever you do, don't park under trees otherwise your car will end up covered with bird ****.

If you are after a good chicken schnitty try big fellas pizza.

If you like seafood and steak try - Ashmore steak and seafood but dont eat too much complimentary garlic bread otherwise you will never finish your main and only get a main not an entree as well lol

Chinderah Tavern (Chindy Pub). Worth the drive. Best pub food north of the Royal at Sutherland.

Couple of new recommendations for the Brisbane area:

    - Rogue Bar and Bistro in Newstead. They do Black Forest waffles for breakfast, and their dessert menu includes Golden Gaytime Profiteroles.

    - Julius Pizza in South Bank.

Few new additions to this list.

    Gerard's Bistro - Mediterranean food.

    GOMA - contemporary Australian.

Bacchus - haven't eaten from their main menu, but had the dessert degustation which we enjoyed

    Il Forno - Italian.

Also enjoying the Kinn Thai franchises, there's a few around. I suspect they aren't very traditional though.

Mother Africa Cuisine (Wynnum Rd, Tingalpa) opened in August last year, and we gave it a go over the Christmas period. Was very, very impressed.

Everything tasted to fresh and full of flavour, and the whole menu is gluten free (which I know is a necessity for some, and a bonus for others). Small, family-run place. Good prices too. I know we'll be back again soon.

@KayTea I've added Mother Africa Cuisine to my list of places to try. Although I don't head out that way very often, so it'll take me a while to get there.

We tried Jao Jorm Thai Restaurant in Moorooka last week. Easy, casual atmosphere, beautiful fresh food. We'll go back for sure.
