    Hi,
How to find out about social housing within a suburb or street? Especially in suburbs of Penrith and Blacktown councils like Mt Druitt, St Mary’s etc!

Are there any reports or websites that you can recommend?
Purpose is to find about them and avoid buying onto respective streets etc.

That is a useful site and lots of interesting info :) but it doesn't (understandably) drill down into micro level on where Housing Dept stock is street by street. For this info, you need access to RPData or PDS for ownership status. Agents have access to this so if you know a friendly one then ask or otherwise contact the data suppliers for subscription costs - I believe there are several options now compared to years ago. Happy hunting!

Could you share what is meant by ownership status of RPData or PDS?

I was told you can find out from the local council.

    Don't believe all you hear.
Refer Privacy Policy for the Council.

Oh ok. That's just what someone told me when I rang housing authority.

From memory I think she said you had to do a foi request at local council.

Even with an FOI, it can take months to get the information, may be heavily redacted and will cost you $

If you have a paid subscription to RPData - Core Logic or PriceFinder you can find out who the owners of property are. These are databases that selling and buyers agents subscribe to but I also believe there's a few investors on here who share subscriptions. Do a search and you might be able to hook up with a group?

to be honest - social housing (IMO) depends what kind of housing. Some house ill or disable ppl some house families or older occupants. Also newer social housing you can't even tell from the housing build in the 50s or 60s. if it is the older social housing blocks ones that look run down attracting lots of crim - possibly to avoid.

Look at this place in Doncaster hill (one of these buildings is social housing block) - this suburb is like a chatswood or eastwood (with houses in million+ median)

the building designs are easy to spot. Take a drive early in the morning when they are all asleep to confirm they are still government housing. Look for sofas on the doorstep, more cars out the front than bedrooms in the house, DIY home improvements and facades very run down. While this is a generalisation, it does make identifying streets of Housing properties relatively easy..
Go to Google maps too. Start with Kingswood Park, there's a few streets near the shops that are predominantly Housing to check out the house designs to look out for.

Thanks Jacque, this is new information for me.
It is a good insight, thanks. Always thought that social housing is old houses, but you clarified this!

Thanks, let me try this in one of the suburbs for experience. Would definitely be a lot of effort doing it in person though.
