Love a deep tissue massage. When you are training hard, you almost crave this pain, as its doing you good. Assuming of course, no structural damage / discal issues have been created.

Had one once where my entire erector spinae (either side of spine) was black/blue from bruising, but I needed it.

Love massage, done it since I was a teenager. It can cause muscle aches if you're not used to it, let alone 90 mins all in one go

Drink lots of water, rest and stretch. Next time you'll be ok I think, it's like eating chilli. You build tolerance

Next time try the Thai massage without oil, the pain is so good. And they stretch you the way you usually can't do it yourself

That's not actually true. No one has toxins in their body, all that 'toxins' stuff is a myth.

Toxins are literally poison. So if you had toxins in your body, you would be dead.

    http://themanthemyth.com/juice-cleanse-broscience/

“If toxins did build up in a way your body couldn’t excrete, you’d likely be dead or in need of serious medical intervention. The healthy body has kidneys, a liver, skin, even lungs that are detoxifying as we speak. There is no known way – certainly not through detox treatments – to make something that works perfectly well in a healthy body work better.” - Edzard Ernst emeritus professor of complementary medicine at Exeter University

Thanks bro'. That is one hilarious post! :)

Here is what you said: "So if you had toxins in your body, you would be dead."
Here is what the scientist said: "If toxins did build up in a way your body couldn’t excrete, you’d likely be dead".

How can our bodies excrete toxins that don't exist?:)

"The healthy body has kidneys, a liver, skin, even lungs that are detoxifying as we speak"

Definition of detoxifying? Removing toxins. So yeah, we have toxins, they don't build up, they are excreted by our kidneys, liver, skin, and lungs. We definitely don't need a juice cleanse to "detox" though. I agree that part is baloney. Nice try though. :)

Still, that is not even close to what I am talking about. We don't have toxins trapped in our muscles that are released by massage. What I mean is that the massage causes the toxins to be produced. The toxins are a by-product of muscle damage cause by the massage (ironically). These toxins are then processed by our liver and kidneys and excreted as waste.

    https://www.painscience.com/articles/poisoned-by-massage.php

Your claim that "No one has toxins in their body" is not actually true. When we exercise hard, we damage our muscles and as a by-product, small amounts of toxins are released into our bloodstreams, processed by our liver and kidneys and livers and excreted as waste. That's all fine but what if we overdo it? The toxins can reach such a high level they actually damage the kidneys and can cause muscle degeneration where the muscles start to break down. This is called exertional rhabdomyolysis or exercise-induced rhabdomyolysis. It can be fatal but is also survivable.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exertional_rhabdomyolysis
    http://www.athleteinme.com/ArticleView.aspx?id=241

    So just to recap:
    • No one has toxins in their body, all that 'toxins' stuff is a myth. [Incorrect]
    • Toxins are literally poison. [Correct - and they are removed by our bodies naturally]
    • So if you had toxins in your body, you would be dead. [Incorrect, we can survive relatively high levels of toxins such as in rhabdomyolysis although rhabdomyolysis can be fatal]
Not picking on you seriously. I'm glad you are paying attention. Most people just accept "massages flush out toxins" and "detox diets" and "juice cleanses" flush toxins etc. All rubbish. I am glad to see someone else not buying into the hype. :)

So smoking isn't really bad for your body. It doesn't put toxins into your body. And when people wake up on Saturday morning feeling like crap, that's got nothing to do with what they consumed on Friday night. Right. Food poisoning is a myth. Food allergies likewise. Good.

I always thought doing a 'juice cleanse' etc wasn't about flushing toxins out, but more about not putting toxins in (alcohol, caffeine etc) - giving your body a bit of a rest and allows it to catch up on any 'backlog'. I also gives the liver time to repair.

Don't do your own diagnosis mate, go to GP and he/ she probably can determine the issue
Maybe you just caught flu right after.

See I like this. You wrote something originally that I immediately dismissed as that toxin bs but then there was actually something to it.

I read the pain massage link but it doesnt actually show that the toxin released from minor tissue damage through massage would actually be noticeable. Would need some proper studies to determine that.

But nice to have some notions challenged. ☺

As for someone suggestion for bath salts. I read a study which showed that they dont help muscle pain at all. Just another myth.

Accupuncture also is not supported scientifically.

I dont get why people hold so tightly to these ideas though. I guess the saying "cant teach an old dog new tricks" rings true.

Acupuncture is hard to prove scientifically I think mainly due to the nature of the treatment.
Unlike physio or massage or osteo that has physical manipulation and effect is visible, acupuncture concept is based on meridian points.
How do you see this points? If you get better how do you know it's not all in your mind? How do you test the placebo effect? (i.e. how do you tell people they have needle on ther back when they don't?)

Personally it works for me though ;)

No worries, dude! Glad you liked it.

For real though, did you read the link I posted? It's chock full of ♥science♥ and was written by a guy who specialises in this sort of stuff.

In conclusion, I fully stand behind what I posted.

Yes. It is a great article. And I learned something I did not know from the article... but it does contradict what you said. I think this is a surprise to both of us:
    http://themanthemyth.com/juice-cleanse-broscience/

I am calling us both out on this one ;)

You said: "So if you had toxins in your body, you would be dead." but the article you linked to said "many “toxins” can actually be beneficial to the body".

I said: "toxins, which need to be flushed out" and as above, "many “toxins” can actually be beneficial to the body".

    :)

My boys tease me mercilessly about the fact I have a fantastic chiropractor. She has more knowledge than any doctor I've been to. Same with a good physio I've been to.

And putting magnesium in the bath does help. Taken in a drink (add it to water) helps very quickly. Hubby sometimes gets cramps if he has done a hard day renovating. He will start to cramp, get out of bed, take some mega magnesium and it works very quickly. I believe most of us lack enough magnesium. Same with Vitamin D. But doctors don't believe it, or refuse to test for it.

An as for acupuncture, well I'm teased about this too. Even by the boy who stopped wetting the bed from the very day I took him to the acupuncturist. He was dry from that very night. Still reckons it is crap. But for me, the one who washed three sets of sheets a day for years and years and years, it was fantastic.

Placebo? Who cares, if it works.
