Geez, Victoria is a great place but....linky

It struck my kids when we were in Docklands recently and there were a group of smokers outside the restaurant sitting at a table. We had to google smoking laws in Victoria to find that unlike NSW you were still permitted to smoke outside a restaurant and many other places.

Big turn off and little No Mates was not to happy.

It came into effect in Canberra in 2010.

Though most people honoured it, as a Subway owner with an outdoor dining area, people who really wanted to smoke outside did so unfortunately.

Same thing happens in Sydney. Beer gardens ban food between certain periods to get the bloody smokers in.
Seems to be more in low socio economic areas such as Parra.

Still? Or only as the bans came in?

I could understand how hard business owners found/find it as the laws came in - quite a change. Such as @geoffw's comments show.

I sold my business in 2012. But there was the occasional offender for at least a year.

Last time I went to the Commercial in Parramatta (maybe three months ago) it was still the case.

Good job too...the stink is horrible.

What is ironic is how often you see the restaurant staff out the back or in some secluded spot having a coffin nail....

You'd reckon these groups - and many others in the lower paid sections of the work force - would wake up and stop.

What is it now; a buck per nail?

Yeah, I once evicted a tenant who could afford cigarettes but who couldn't afford rent.

Seeing restaurant staff out back smoking is nothing. I was overseas recently, the guy preparing the takeaway food was smoking while preparing.
