    Hi all,

Is there a legal obligation for vendors to hand a property over with good working smoke alarms?
I'm pretty sure in NSW it is law but the solicitor in QLD reckons not if they are owner occupiers. Does this sound right?

    Thanks!

There is an obligation to have compliant smoke alarms installed for all residential property in Queensland. If the seller has not complied with this obligation the new owner has a legal obligation to install compliant smoke alarms (from memory it is within 90 days of settlement or before a tenancy agreement is entered into).
