@Big Will, we need statistics (preferably ABS statistics), not anecdotes :) :)

So does the cafe deliver or does he use company time to duck out to grab these coffees?

Same thing with smoking. I've a workmate that has just started smoking again after quitting for 2 years. Can't go any longer than about 30 minutes without sneaking off. And chews Nicorette also . At ~$1 a ciggy that really adds up. Don't even get me started on energy drinks at $5 a can.

That's a really good observation actually, I first looked at the chart and thought....it hasn't changed much in that timeframe.

I automatically read it as being for ALL 25-34 year olds....

These stats would be vastly different I think if it included those living at home ie "not" the head of the household. Housing costs...0% for instance

thats correct, it is for ALL 25-34 year olds. But remember home ownership in this demographic is decreasing meaning the "not the head of the household" numbers are increasing... But consumer spending is decreasing over time.. Go figure?

I wonder if the persons surveyed have any idea of what they spend on food and non-alcoholic beverages. We usually know what we spend on groceries and food bought when at the supermarket. But who keeps a running record of their coffees, "vending machine at the train station" buys and other meals out every day to get the true costs.

    Me!
Every dollar is accounted for. :D
But then again - I don't often buy little things on a daily basis.

We do too, but then we aren't your typical consumers either.

I have an ongoing dialog with Mr Salt and provide him data from time to time.
Bottom line is that he drew attention to the unaffordable housing crisis.
Now, if I could only get him to refer to house price growth for what it is, 'house price inflation' and to recognise that 'doom and gloom' is house price inflation beyond wages growth.

I really need to tighten my belt and stop buying 3 to 4 coffees a day and eating sushi at lunch because it all adds up. We can all do something to tighten our belts abit.

Be realistic about where to live in view of the prices in the inner city of capital cities.

The biggest difference between the habitual 'avocado smashin' eaters (who aren't already financially secure/successful) and others who have financial success is their underlying attitude, that guides everything else. No problem if you want to have the 'smashed avo' attitude - that's fine. Just don't expect to do too well financially. That's the reality. It still to this day amazes me how many people (especially those older than 30) think they can change that reality. A futile endeavour.

    Just my opinion.

I'm in trouble. My 10 year old daughter ordered smashed avocado yesterday at a trendy cafe. I only ate the leftovers from my son.

I can't wait until the avocado session finishes.

Then this thread might die a natural death :) :).

I was cruising through double bay on the weekend and two young girls in a top of the line red ferrari pulled up beside me. The car also had p plates which i thought u werent allowed to drive cars like this. Made me think of this thread i dont think theres any problems of smashed avo here.
