Wow. this thread is still going. I haven't seen any smashed avocado in Sydney cafes. I think I'm just cheap when it comes to food. lifestyle is a big thing now. social media used to market clothing, food, travel etc. hard to resist sometimes.

It doesn't appeal to me in the first place. :)

I think it's fine to eat out once in a while and I meant those expensive brunch or even high tea. afterall, it's a good way to build relationships, chat over lunch or dinner. pampering spouse or partner is justified. but once it becomes a lifestyle choice, it will eat into savings (pardon the pun) and not much left after rent and other expenses.

Also a good thing to do to shout somebody to brunch in a mentoring scenario so you can pick their brain. I'm sure many investment journeys have been bettered by doing such. Then it's worth the cost?

Go to The wooden Whisk Cafe Wollstonecraft. They have "Whisk Smashed Avocado". Tempted to order this but their other options are also irresistible...

Except that his parents are overseas and he's paying his own rent.

    I do too, absolutely!

How true is this comment, thats the difference between the haves and the have nots.
    Have a go, reward.
Stick with the Jonses, no reward.

These youngns should read Jan Somers.
Delayed gratification. Jan goes at it pretty hard but you can tailor it to your own needs and wants, so long as you are achieving at least some form of investing you cant go wrong. Spend spend spend and you WILL go wrong.

    Unsustainable.

Isnt that what the younger gen are on about these days, sustainability ?

Agree. I am middle-aged, 20+ years experience in my field, and earning just over this. Admittedly, regional areas generally pay less than capitals, so maybe I'm just in the wrong field!

But what is the spending pattern of 25-34 year olds who are not the head of their households?

We were at a winery on Sunday for where my brother in law and his fiance are going to get married.

Our table was my wife, her parents, our daughter and myself and the people next to us were 4x 50-60yo. The rest of the 100ish people were all 20-30 yo (we are in this group).

It felt weird looking around and I was thinking typically at a winery you would expect to see older people out at the restaurant as the cost per main was $25-30. We spent just over $200 for the 5 of us and my daughter is 2 so had a kids meal (cant remember the price).

A person at my work says they are wanting to save up for a wedding and also a property, yet he has at least 4-5 coffees a day from the cafe at $4 a pop.
