Well that 'journalist' clearly didn't bother fact checking. Obviously fake. As one of the recent comments on Reddit says, the shadow of the 'coin box' can't be seen on the wall - even though the box apparently protrudes in front of the cistern. Instead, all that shows is the curved shadow of the cistern. People will believe anything!
Alternatively, maybe they should consider deducting $1 off the rent for each flush, just so the landlord knows how much S H 1 Thompson he/she is going to have to put up with....
