    Hi Team,

I’ve purchased a block of 4 units, all bathrooms are to be refurbished.

Most of the tenants will be over 55

Would you put in a bath shower/ or large shower?

Older tenants may have mobility issues and getting in and out of a bath can be difficult. Ensure the show access is wide enough to be able to get a chair into the shower stall and ensure it has a handheld shower rose or the ability to fit one.

Many of our 55+ aged friends are remodelling their bathrooms and removing the bath in favour of a large walk-in shower.

If aimed at that market include safety grab rails, there are many designs that don’t look utilitarian.

For mobility I would consider an accessable shower but without it looking like its for handicapped. Wider for access if required. Handrail and also a shower head that includes handheld. (Fitted lower down?) No protruding soap dish etc.

Same with taps etc. Consider arthritis and other issues. Mixers are common but easy to put X spindle taps in a bathroom etc and not all older people can turn them.

Occupational therapist here, level access shower recess is the only way to go, recommend width to accommodate the width of a wheeled commode and must have handheld shower head.
Thank you for making my life easier!
