    Hi all,

Tenants at my property have had issues with the shower drain blocking up several times now.
The first time a plumber came out, he just used a plunger and cleared it.

Then it happened a few weeks later again.. after using a vacuum, he found the cause of the blockage was an altered three prong peice of a 'plumdinger' which had rusted screws, and managed to break off causing a blockage.

Any idea what this three pronged piece is for? Could I not just do away with it and put the drain cover back on?

Looks like it's there to catch hair going down the drain. If it is, it definitely works.

Get yourself a drain sieve and the problem will solve.

If you have people with long hair using it, it doesn't take long to clog. I have rented a property to some female tenants and you would be surprised how much hair I dragged out from the shower drainage over the year when reported blocked.

I maybe wrong, but I think that is designed to catch hair and other undesirable items going into the drainage..
One would think the person's who made this would have used 316 marine grade stainless steel screws..
Plus it may pay to look at the seal around the shower ..imho..

The property is interstate, and the plumber called out was one by RACQ Home Assist. They only repair the emergency fault.
I might see if I can give them a call to get further information..but don't like my chances

Our plumber friend works for Home Assist. You should be able to find out who he plumber is and call him direct.
