I am putting in a new kitchen in a rental property. It is a U shape kitche, 2.4x2.25x2.4 m. If I use 60cm benchtop, there is only 1.05m space left.It seems too narrow for two people in the kitchen.

The other option is to reduce the size of bechtop at one side to 45cm. However, this will reduce storage space and the fridge will stick out which affects the appearance of the kitchen.

Any thoughts or previous experience you can share with me

That is a very narrow kitchen. Have you got a floor plan?

Can you reduce the non-fridge side?

You'd normally want 1.2mish for comfort in a kitchen.

I had a galley style kitchen once (most apt description)
Stone bench tops, soft close draws, vinyl wrap)
I had the return built on castors ! (even though i was told it wouldnt work)
This allowed me to spin the return side ways into the center of the kitchen (like an island) so more than one person could work in and around it, in the kitchen.
It also allowed me to move it out of the kitchen to the near the deck like a servery when entertaining.
Also made cleaning the floors a breeze, push out of the way, mop, push back :D

Just a thought for you :)

If this is the kitchen u put a pic of in the other thread.

Weigh up putting cooker (with overhead cabinet & slide out rangehood) fridge & pantry (possibly a corner one, or use it to separate the other two) on the same wall, all ~600mm deep.

Have the others 450mm base cabinets, 470mm bench top, 300mm overheads.

If going a breaky bar, 600mm top on 450mm cabinet.

Personally I'm not a fan of 600mm base cabinets, stuff gets lost behind all the forward stuff on the bottom shelf, can't be easily seen, difficult to get stuff out etc. 450mm is plenty.

If 600mm base cabinets, use drawers in their place instead.

To the op... as Jess said, please post a floor plan.

what is the overall size of the house and likely tenants? eg couple? is it a unit?

450mm deep cabinets may be enough. as westy said above :)

or do an L shape with 600mm deep and on the other side do a 300-400 breakfast bar type arrangement with open shelves under

I have attached photos of existing kitchen and new kitchen design. It is hard to put the fridge and washing machine together at the window side of the kitchen. if I use 45cm benchtop in the fridge side, the fridge may stick out 30 cm. It looks strange to me.

might be best to keep it as an L and let the fridge just hang out of the right wall. Dont provide a nook for it just a power point that way tenants can BYO their fridge/esky and not worry about what size niche there is for it

If a 1/2 bedroom property then It seems to have enough space, i've rented in properties with kitchen with only half a metre space. If it is a 3/4 bedroom property then you'll need to get creative.

I just got these, not sure if I'm a fan yet.

Gunna mean sparky & plumber but I was thinking cooker, fridge, pantry on wall facing window, however may also want to consider adding a dishwasher, also 600mm.

I'm on phone so can't do plan, try this in it.

When walking in, fridge 1st on right, then dishwasher (also acts as bench space), then cooker, 600x450mm corner pantry, 450 base/bench space + overheads to corner, 450mm base with sink under window, 450mm base/600 top (breaky bar) back towards fridge leaving 800mm walk through access

    sounds good!
You could put the dishwasher under the 600mm breakfast bar to save running plumbing around the walls.
Sparky wouldn't be much. You'd just need a gpo x2 put in for the oven and fridge

lol I must have become a tech reliant, didn't think of using a piece of paper & pic.

DW could possibly go under breaky bar, was concerned about space for 600 base, say 800 top with the back door there, but having 2400 to play with leaves ~1300 to move around.
Bar stools might be an issue next to the door though

L shape could be an option and can save some money. I can buy a second hand pantry and put it on the right hand side.

Thanks for taking the time to do the design, Bob. This could be an option. Would like to keep the DW close to the sink to reduce the plumbing work. Maybe put it under breaky bar.

As there is a door, it is a little bit tricky to hve a breakfast bar there.
