Scott Morrison has accused Bill Shorten of lying to voters after the Opposition Leader matched a government promise to not to lift taxes on superannuation or introduce new ones despite Labor policies adding up to a $34 billion hit on retirement savings.

Amid growing fears within Labor ranks the election is tightening, the opposition scrambled to downplay Mr Shorten's superannuation gaffe by clarifying the commitment meant no new or higher taxes than those already announced.
Mr Shorten's difficulties were compounded by an awkward press conference where he repeatedly refused to answer questions about the impact the opposition's carbon emissions reduction policies would have on the economy.

Labor was also forced on the backfoot over revelations it had deleted dozens of paragraphs of details over its
negative gearing and capital gains tax policies from its website.

Unfortunately for the ALP they couldn't keep Bill locked in the broom cupboard until after the election. It was always a risk when they were pushed on some of their policies rather than just sitting quietly watching the Liberal party implosions over the last few months.

Still hope of them losing the "un-loseable election"!

He either lied about it or forgot which of the many groups he was planning to hit with higher taxes.

Reminds me when John Hewston in 1991 launched the Fightback policy on changes to GST,back then polls suggested a Coalition victory but Labor still won and Australia went into recession..

Just because all the media is telling everyone this a walk in for Shorten a few more stuff ups like this and history has a funny way of repeating itself..
