There's a general buzz around our local area at the moment with a large increase in shire rates

The amount you pay in rates each year depends on the basis of valuation applied to the property. This valuation is determined by the Valuer General's Office

City Of Swan charge 6.5618 per $

Interesting, as its a buyers market at present and rental values have 'dropped'

Rate x Valuation + Additional Charges = Amount Due

    Friends Examples..

    5 x 2 in Ellenbrook area - Rates $2,300.00
    4 x 2 in Aveley area - Rates $2,300.00

These friends believe City Of Swan rates are higher than those living on the coast and near the Swan river?

Looking at other councils its hard to determine, any other WA Investors have feedback?

It has absolutely nothing to do with how much other councils charge their ratepayers. Costs are dependent upon what it costs your council to provide services, what projects it is undertaking (including maintenance on council owned assets, roads, community land) how much it gets in S94 contributions, rates, other revenue etc.

Yep! as Scott said it's a local government fee/charge, they could up it 10k pa knowing we can do FA about it.

And just to rub it in, consider Stirling ratepayers (not that it doesn't happen elsewhere)
City of Stirling council under fire for luxury car purchases

And they now also have to pay for a green waste bin whether they use it or not
