Hi all, I have been stalking the old Somersoft forums and a few times there has been mention of a classic thread of lics on the old sharesguru forum which is not non existent.

Just wondering if any old time investing veterans have any hard copies or backups they are willing to share with the rest of the investing community.

I must admit reading through the old Somersoft forums is a real learning curve especially in investor behaviour during the GFC and recovery stages.

    Many thanks.

Cheers simon! Great effort! The link only seems to work for a page or so? Have you happened to open more search result pages yourself?

You may need to go to the first page of the thread and then move back in time to find other pages that were indexed - not every page is indexed at every time period, so it can be a bit hit and miss.

I have enough trouble dealing with today let alone travelling back in time:confused:.

Besides the main threads worth reading are not there as @SatayKing went AWOL and took the threads with him. But not before I managed to personally archive some of them myself:).

Do we know who ran the Sharesguru forums? I wonder if they still have the data from the site?

Not sure if I would tell even if I knew. We were very rarely sober:). @SatayKing seemed to be in a relationship with St Henri and was in the process of creating a bottle top / cork index fund:cool:.

Was it your site @SatayKing ?

Did you keep any of the data? Would there be backups anywhere?

No it wasn't. I never knew who actually operated Sharesguru.

I do recall some member of the forum saying it was a spin off from another forum which closed due to concerns over compliance matters. Amoli or something? Sorry I cannot be of more help.

If you come across any great threads over on Somersoft, it would be useful to keep a link to them.

There's a heap of awesome threads there, but with nearly 100,000 threads to look through, it can be tricky to distil out the really good stuff.

Perhaps you could post links to good threads you find?

Ah deary me. Careful peeps or soon you'll put on the cosy slippers, rug over the knees and ruminate on days gone by and how better it was back. "Well, in my day...."

As an aside - it was announced last week that the next version of the forum software (the one after the version we're upgrading to in coming months) will have bookmarking facilities built in - making it easy for people to save their favourite threads!

That new version won't be available until early in the new year, so it will be a while after that before we're able to upgrade.

Not sure who ran it but I was a regular visitor and read Benthonic's posts on LIC's with interest. I often wonder if he/she maybe posts on this website under another user name.

Hope you find useful stuff @pippen and you can apply it. That can be the hard part I feel. Allow the crowd rush for the exit while standing back waving them goodbye.

I may have to see if I can resurrect that thread - or as much of it as possible. There are a few tricks to getting the Wayback Machine to cooperate (requires some time travel).
