Annyeong Hasseyo Any members in Seoul? I will be heading over in August so maybe we could do a meet up.
@Terry_w you're quite the traveller and polyglot. I hope you will be adding Korean to your list of languages.
Just Planning Something ! Looking at using up my points for Seoul, you must have been listening in! PM me your dates and I will see what I can do.
I actually studied Korean at uni for 6 months. Its grammatically similar to Japanese in some ways and the alphabet is very easy to learn - I can read, but cannot understand, Korean.
First time I was in Seoul it was amazing.. early '90s So wonderful feeling lost! Last time total Luxe Every one spoke English... Shopping was so much easier...Just checked the points.. I need double, what I have with Korean Airlines.. you've got me thinking though!
I'm not much of a shopper, but it was great just walking around. Myeongdong contains the world's 9th most expensive shopping street (although I don't know which this was - maybe Lotte itself?). Lot's of street food, awesome fried chicken, great creamy Lagers (Max was my favourite). The main shopping I did was in Namdaemun markets which was impressive - I picked up a load of things for the kids, including some learner chopsticks that @DaveM might need for himself Lunch in the hectic lane of bibimap was a highlight in Namdaemun - it is worth asking at the information desk where the eating streets are. There was no option to walk passed, the lady basically grabbed you, sat you down and you got what you were given! I went up the North Seoul Tower, checked out a couple of the palaces and wandered through the old town (Banduk ?spelling). The only thing I missed was visiting the demilitarised zone on the North Korean border. It was such an easy place to get around, pleasant, vibrant. People I stopped on the street were friendly and helpful. I felt very comfortable and could have spent much longer there.
