It is not that they don't care anymore.
Before the first time Covid hits - there was so many unknown. Jobs, movement, money and etc.
Now they know the government and reserve bank is going to catch whoever falls off the cliff.
Banks are happy to go easy and cheap credit is guarantee now for years to come.
When you have such a strong backstop. There is no reason to be conservative.

Absolutely, I have heard of some horror stories about forums, personal info, and wacko behaviour from loons.

Hi @Sackie and all, may I ask if you advertise your property on hard printed local newspaper ?
We are about to sell ours in Brisbane and wonder if it is worth the (very high) cost of having an ad on The Courier Mail. Thanks.

As you said privacy is over rated. Most people would not bother.

Believe me.... if you know the right channels and where to look ...it is easy to find people.

What I find annoying...is what social media has. Lots of people posting rubbish when they have nutin'. Lots of people build personas of themselves this way.

Some of the warning signs are:
    1. Not wanting to meet despite having a lot of posts on sites.

    2. Lack of details on the deals they are doing

    3. Not providing evidence.

    4. Hiding under a cloak of privacy....I see this with a lot of spruikers as it is easy to check out what they own.

    5. Usually they have vice --- usually gambling...

Believe it or not...this is realm of lot of fraudsters. Just like the Gus Nosti...Melissa Caddick.

So the moral of the story.....question everything on the internet. Meet people face to face or at least find people who know them to see if they are the real deal.;)

    Hi @Soy ,

No I mostly advertise on the 2 main RE websites. Unless you have a special product you're selling, I see little value to spend extra money on those front page or feature article stories in different papers.

For the vast majority of sales, the 2 main websites is sufficient.

When was the last time you bought a paper?

In today's market it's probably not worthwhile unless you're selling a retirement-lifestyle property for the over 70's.

Thank's Sackie. That's what I thought. Just that agent was adamant that "oh yes people do read it".

Agents generally will try to get you to pay for a whole host of things you likely don't need. It's more about exposure for them and less about how effective those outlets are as part of your marketing campaign.

Also I wouldn't bother with the video segment many try to sell you unless your product is in the higher end category. And even then it's debatable. I recently sold a couple of higher end homes with and without video. I don't think it makes a huge difference if you decided not to have it. I think again, it's more the agent wants you to pay for marketing which makes them and their brand look good.

Also you have room to negotiate on commission. What are they charging you?

Haha can't remember when I saw it last. And it now costs over 6K to have an ad on The Courier Mail for the 3 weekends. Crazy !

Vary from 2.1 to 3.5 ex GST. Agents with big name charge higher rate. The one quoted me 6 ish K for newspaper ad is a well known brand name :).

My 2c. When selling I use websites and never pay for print advertising, however, I am one of those people who read papers and look at the real estate pages. I've found a couple of bargains that I didn't see online in this way. I would NEVER pay extra for newspaper advertising.

Hehe, pretty sure you don't look in the same markets that I do. :p

Anyway, last one I bought wasn't listed online, nor in a newspaper.;)

@MTR don't get me wrong, I minimise my tax bill to the last dollar legally allowable. The government certainly has an agenda which taxes us from head to toe with a slap on the backside for good measure.

Despite what some misguided folks believe, most wealthy people pay a ******** in taxes and greatly support the economy now and upon their retirement by being financially self sufficient.

And some advocate for more disproportionate taxing to the wealthy??:rolleyes:

It's funny you ask because recently I was talking to Simon from the Cohen Handler team to potentially help me buy something off market. I decided not to go ahead because I felt their contract was a little too restrictive for my liking.
