I know it's that old "woulda, coulda, shoulda" thing and although there's no use in dwelling, I imagine this happens alot when it comes to property.
I cant seem to shake my own regret. Some poor decisions ie. Selling a 4 bed, Sydney home in 2008 (GFC) and buying 2, 1 bed units in Sydney (obviously was not thinking about investment or return, very naive/silly at 18 years old).
4 bed house sold for 2.8m last year and I'm left with 2, 1 bed units with a combined value, today of 1.5m.
It's only 10 years with new family and needing to upsize that I'm deeply regretful and frustrated at my incredibly poor property decisions.
    Anyone made similar bad choices?

You could write a book about not so good property decisions.

Sure buyers/sellers remorse is inevitable. But as one property guru once said, better than lover's remorse. Balls of fire enrage the mind when a 2nd rate decision is made. But remember that's hindsight and hindsight is 20/20 vision as some other guru once said.

I have suffered buyers remorse with every single purchase i think.
When selling I have suffered sellers remorse too, but this soon disappears and I don't go back and think what if... - but I did go to an open house once of a property I sold about 10 years prior..

You had a property portfolio of $4.3m
    What LVR/purchase price?

Yes, "balls of fire enrage the mind", perfectly sums up the feeling of regret!

No, maybe post was poorly worded.
I sold a property for 1.2m and with the money I bought 2 properties which only appreciated 550k, so portfolio is only at 1.5m. The property was inherited so purchased for peanuts back in the 40s- prime Eastern suburbs, Sydney real estate.

Yes what ifs are pointless I know.. I hadn't thought about it in 10 years until I recently saw the home online and it's sale price and I was gobsmacked.
It will be interesting to see what happens to the market in the next ten years!

Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

Best way to NOT get seller’s remorse is to NEVER sell.

Best way to NOT get buyer’s remorse is to buy heaps. That way you are too busy to look back.

One of my favourites. The amount of times I have repeated this to myself, just lacking the serenity at the moment lol, thanks.

Everyone is different I guess. When I feel really bummed about something I always try to flood my mind with gratitude... everything I'm grateful for having in life...I do that for about 5mins and it usually always puts me back into perspective.

Lol, I guess it's too late in my case though! Therein lies the remorse- If I hadn't sold, I would be in a much better position to buy now, catch 22, I guess.

Thanks Sackie, sound advice. Honestly, I think practising gratitude is the only way I will get over it and stop doing my head in!
