I know one thing - riding my mountain bike through quiet and peaceful bushland makes me happy.

True, but their opinions are valid - and one can generally determine their biases and take that into account.

    It's only roadies who's opinions aren't worth sh#$! ;)

When I was living in Sydney I worked for a time at Macquarie Park. Pre-work rides through LCNP were the best start to the day ever. Even though you knew there were houses and motorways within a couple of hundred meters (sometimes 10s of meters) you felt completely out of the city and enclosed by bush. Awesome.

    Cheers,
    Inertia

This is what I love about living in this part of Sydney. Within about 20-25 minutes drive from my place we have: Manly Dam, Bantry Bay, Red Hill, Oxford Falls, Cascades, Jubes, Old Mans Valley and Lane Cove National Park!

Saying people don't need psychologists is like saying people don't need property managers. You're right, some people can do it on their own, but for a lot of people they make life much better.

I'm not sure of the OP's purpose, but I saw a sleep psychologist a few years ago and it was life-changing. We discussed expectations, relaxation techniques and mindset changes.

I've had no significant trauma or bereavement in my life, aside from the usual teenage angst.

I would like to see one every week just to talk, if I had the time. I bet I wouldn't click with 90% though - I'm not comfortable in a 'patient' position.

And I can't tell if I'm a roadie or a mountain biker anymore. My heart is in the bush, but my actions see me on the tarmac. The latter is far scarier. As to best bike? Impossible to define.

Not all view points are valid because the kkk is not valid!

You need a psychologist because you need a property manager.

You guys are just so so so funny. Lol

Apart from Bran no one has actually demonstrated that a psychologist has actually worked for you.

By the way mountain bikes are much better then road bikes ;) but
Horses are even better than mountain bikes

I'm a practicing GP . In the last year I have had numerous patients who have had life changing benefit for seeing psychologists .

personally I don't need one . I have this place  . Drives me crazy and provides therapy at the same time

I don't think telling someone to ask the universe for a gift and chase that dream! is really an appropriate response for someone who is, for example, living with the effects of childhood sexual abuse.

It takes a bit more nuance and work than that provided for pseudo-scientific nonsense that is only fit for sharing on facebook to other #soblessed types with very few real issues to deal with.

I've had three close family members attempt to commit suicide from internalised issues in the last 5 years - one successful. Two thankfully were found before it was too late and had to go under LONG treatments which included daily psych sessions, to help them work through the emotional baggage they had collected over time. This is without a doubt helped them regain their quality of life and feel safe to trust themselves.

Unfortunately there are some self serving individuals out there who feel the need to think that it just takes a positive mindset to solve genuine medical issues, who can make people who need assistance feel like they shouldn't try gain help and speak out. "What's wrong with you? Just FEEL happy stupid, it's that easy!"

7 years Ive spent working in the field. Im still learning things today. Trying to share all the different effective strategies within psychology would be a ridiculous undertaking.

Im wondering what evidence you actually require in order to acknowledge that psychology does work well when done well?
