We want to erect security cameras on our Building Site.

Has anyone done this before? If so, what did you buy or hire?

    I am in Melbourne.

    Thanks,

    Anne

Surely hiring wouldn't make economic sense, would it? I would think that you can just get weatherproof wifi cameras (they come as solar as well) and a 4g modem in an IP67 rated box.

You can hire temporary security cameras, the run of solar.

You get alerts to your phone and you can watch the progress of the construction from your home. has 30 day back up.

    Motion sensor alerts as well.

    google for "
    CONSTRUCTION SITE SECURITY CAMERAS"

Assuming that they'll be needed for at least 12 months, that's over $3k for a single camera. It's obviously each to their own, but I'd much prefer going the DIY route I suggested. Cheaper and more cameras and you own them afterwards.

Of course. you should the best option for your project.

In my specification document, I have a clause to have a security camera installed and should have back ups at-least for a month.

    1) Un invited guests
    2) Theft
    3) un safe activities are monitored.

    Yep, Google trail cameras
They can be bought cheap enough, weather rated, motion activated, cloud based recording/storage, not cheap, bu make for cheap insurance :D
Anyone offering a temprorary security camera install likely has more "out clauses" than a building inspector  !!!!!!
If you are local, buy your own and monitor :p

Make sure they are discrete. They are more valuable than a roll of copper

Actually, not really. I just bought a trail camera (no phone connection) from banggood for $42.50 - at least double that from an Aussie retailer with the same specs.

Might be worth it. Lots of materials and tools get stolen from building sites. I'd set ethe cameras up high and as inaccessible as possible. Ironically they could get knocked off as well.

The battery powered angle grinder - a thief's friend. Also good for vehicle access to national parks

Agency will monitor your camera 24 hrs. and if some one gets a ladder and steals the camera, agency will replace it with a new one.

My last project, builder didn't have cameras installed, Electrical cables , water meters and lot of materials were stolen. Insurance he had, has excess $6000.

If he had the cameras and security from an external company, he would have saved lot of money.

Right now he has installed cameras from a professional company. They sit very high up the ground. $0 theft and 24 hrs monitoring.

My projects are 3 - 4 million worth. So. I spent few grand to be monitored.

You need professionals to follow the law.

Cameras are placed high up so, its not work hazard, Plus they know. how to capture your work site and not to record neighbours.

There is number displayed on the pole, neighbours can call and request the footage legally.

Builders are aware not to build in next door and follow laws and regulations.

Camera security companies are aware of they duties.

You can have this in your contracts and builders will get that installed for you.

All my projects have cameras clause in the contracts.

Don't worry Hari, Datto and I are just having a bit of a joke. The battery powered angle grinder is a relatively new tool (the battery powered part) that is used by criminals to cut locks etc.

I've used Site Sentry on a project but not sure if they are in Melbourne

Security System Perth | Security Surveillance System Perth

Their camera was placed on the corner of the site so had good viewing down 2 axis and was monitored 24 x 7 and with motion detected alarms that would send event notifications via app to myself, site super and Site Sentry. The camer is on a long pole, with lights, solar panel and a concrete block for base so it can't walk away.

The camera had a speaker so the monitoring company could give instruction to anyone on the site - ie tell a trade who was onsite too early that they can't start yet, tell the nosy lady walking her dog that she wasn't allowed on site, tell the people from the park across the road that the site toilet was not for them :p

My partners ex had a bat, he engraved "the enforcer" on it !
It was one item he forgot to take.....
(For a time I used to like sitting on the veranda with it clearly visible when/if he showed up for "his custody weekends" :p)
These days I have multiple HD camera's, all cloud stored, he rarely visits, and if he does he only has one beer and is on his best behaviour (though complains like a little B!#h$ on social media later)...
In this day and age if you think you can walk 100mt in suburbia without being on camera you are foolish ;) (it is better than DNA for catching idiots/criminals)

This is what construction site needs. I will have them mandatory in all my construction sites.

The best cameras are like a lighthouse. They warn theives that the site is monitored. They can look like a roadworks gen and lighting rig but it stops theft of materials and vandalism
