I thought it might be interesting to find out if people here are the product of state schools, private schools, no schools ...... especially given the level of interest in "school zones"

Also would be fun to see if there are any alumni here :D

    My academic journey:
Wellington Primary (Shaftsbury Dve, Mulgrave Vic - now gone)
    Parkmore Primary (Forest Hill Vic)
    Livingstone Primary (Vermont South Vic)
Burwood Heights High (now Forest Hill College, Burwood East, Vic)
    Melbourne High (South Yarra, Vic)
    University of Melbourne
    Swinburne University of Technology

Public school for primary, private girls school for high school ... did not enjoy the private school as so much emphasis an academia whereas I was creative, and hence no guidance or support ... and a school full of girls is a real b****

Clovelly Public School until reached high school age, was happy there and then my parents decided to send us to a school run by C of E nuns, yes, unusual, suited me - most of the other girls were boarders and there were only about 6 day pupils in our class, my sister hated it ... :)
Then 12 months of Business College ...

UK: I went to a church primary school - ancient (1841) buildings, outdoor toilets, coal stoves in the winter, but a happy place to be. Then on to a then publicly funded boys grammar school (now independent fee paying) where I was less than happy. It was the middle school of three adjacent schools which exemplified the British class system. To the left was an unselective mixed comprehensive school. We weren't allowed to go within 50 yards of the fence because our headmaster didn't want us mixing with the oiks. On the other side was a fee-paying school for young ladies. We weren't allowed within 50 yards of that fence because the headmistress didn't want her young ladies mixing it with mere grammar school boys. As the Morecambe and Wise comedy sketch put it, 'I know my place'.

I left in January 1971 and have never been back.

I can relate to this as my late husband experienced the same thing, one of the reasons he left England.

It was beneficial for @datto as he received a higher level education on how to apply hydroponics techniques on an industrial scale.

I went to a grammar school....but I've got no way of knowing if it made any difference or not?

    Didn't like it much.

I have had a great career...but its been in the arts/media nothing upper class or flash?

When I first came to Melbourne as a tourist 35 years ago my then friend impressed on me as to how different Australia was to UK and how all the children in an area - be they children of bus drivers, bankers or barristers - all went to the same school. Not knowing any better I was hugely impressed.

Now I think I know better: the three tiers may not be separated by fences but at the 'top' we have Scotch College, Xavier etc, then the top tier state schools whose reputation ups the price of houses in their catchments and thus serves as a selection mechanism, and then the rest. True?

Public primary, public high school and three public universities.

(I just did a few early subjects towards a masters degree at the third one - before I went in a different direction.)

True up to a certain point - when I was working in the Wahroonga Sydney area, buying a house near the very popular 'bush school' was desirable i.e. it was a public school.

I turned out alright. I feel the need to say that to the postcode/private school obsessed people in the upper echelons of society in this country!

Are you trying to social engineer me :p

    The redacted version

    Public primary school
    Co-ed private high school
University 1 (DNC Did Not Complete)
    University 2 (DNC)
    Tafe 1 (DNC)
    Tafe 2 (DNC)
    University 3 (DNC)

After a whopping HECs bill and no degree I finally worked out that I like learning but not proving I've learnt something. I do however excel at on the job learning and throughout all that went from an admin assistant through to being a team leader

That was through private tuition from a residence. Till he got raided and cuffed on the front lawn.

“ No class today datto, see you in 12 months, don’t forget your homework” were his last words as I walked past lol.
