Personally I would probably prefer them to increase the fare's by small percentages each year as required as opposed to freezing for a few years and then you get these big jumps.
Political decisions to freeze fare's have always ended terribly.

If IPART recommends price increases I think its pretty short-sighted of government to not adopt them. We just end up falling back into the trap of under-investment or unsustainable revenue's.

I'm paying way less for public transport now than I was 5-6 years ago.

No, but coming from Brisbane, it is probably in response to claims that Brisbane's Public Transport System is expensive and I would expect the parameters have been chosen to produce the results that the surveyor desired. In my very limited experience of about two weeks in the last seven years, I would say Melbourne's PTS is much cheaper than ours.

@House true, small things add up, but without coffee I am not motivated in the morning, work less hard then I'd have less stellar salary progression... I cut off buying lunch out on most weekdays instead, save $10 on lunch is easier than giving up my coffee ;)

$6 lunch, no coffee, still saving $4?
You could make your own coffee of course.

I dont think she is doing much out of the ordinary. She is 24.
I would focus on bettering earnings potential at 24 rather than saving religiously..not discounting saving, rathet focus on maximising earning potential at that age.

    • Gym payment; riding bike, walking really fast, running really fast, swimming - initial cost of bike - $400 unless you are trying to be Lance. Swimming - more costly; but walking and riding a bike will do it.
    • Phone bill - need I say more.
    • Health supplements - really yellow ****.

One is very easy to do - and guaranteed to improve the bottom line instantly - savings and living within your means and going without for the extravagant spends.

The other one increasing earnings - is not guaranteed, and much harder to achieve - otherwise everyone would.

Start with the obvious and keep working on the second one.

There are plenty of pensioners wandering around our Country who got it reversed.

People seem to equate saving and going without as sitting in the dark in your unit and not going out.
Back in my day, we could have fun playing outside in the sun without spending any money somehow.

And if they don't have the savings pattern established, they just adjust their spending habits when they earn more.
