    Hi All,

With summer approaching, I’m looking at getting some roof ventilation put in.

Most houses in the area have the standard looking “whirlybird” type roof ventilation.

Do these really work well? Are there any particular types / brands which work better than others?

    Thanks in advance.

    Cheers,
    Robbie

Solar powered fans work faster and exhaust more air than whirly birds.

    Thanks for the reminder ;)

I have been going to buy one of the solar one's
(was going to open it up, tap into the low voltage power wire and put a switch in line so i can turn it off over winter) :D

do people notice a difference with whirlybirds? also the solar one looks good but i'd be worried it'd break down after a few years. the normal ones would last forever.

I installed some soffit vents at the end of summer last year and I'm tossing around between whirlybirds or a gabble window. Most important thing is to have adequate roof insulation though.
And as per Joynz above, powered ones work better.

If you do install Whirly birds, make sure you also install larger vents in the eaves to allow more air to flow through the roof. Whirly birds on a tightly sealed roof won't be very effective.

I installed the edmonds "Airomatic " which was very effective and highly recommend. They claim it equals 4 whirlybird , but its Electricity powered.

Not so much for heat, insulation does that, but for air flow, I do not think you will notice any temp drop if you already have good insulation.

Try the Solar whiz fans -but the key is make sure your incoming air is from the shade.. This will solve your issue. The problem with whirlies is that if you put two in, one draws the air out and the other draws the hot air from the roof in..... You cant suck air from a closed cavity.
