Has anyone used a spring assist mechanism in a roller blind?
I'm looking at getting dual blinds (blockout + sunscreen).
Some blinds are big, some are small.

Is there a point where Spring Assist is actually detrimental?
At $25 per roller, it seems ok, but it does add up quickly with multiple blinds.

Is spring assist just the normal way roller blinds used to be before everyone started using chain winders?

In other words, pull down to close the blind and it ‘locks closed. Then when you want to open it, you pull down to ‘unlock’ and the spring rolls it up?

No. It's a spring inside the roller which winds as you use the chain to lower the blind, this way when you go to wind up the blind, the spring reduces the amount of effort required.

Hi neK, spring assist helps you lower and raise the blind. I's completely unecessary for smaller widths, but they help for bigger blind widths, like over 2.4m wide.

Also, the need for spring assist also depends on the blind drop. As an example, the blind might be 2.5m wide but only 0,6m high, so you don't need spring assist in this instance.

This sounds pretty nifty... if I wasn't waiting for IKEA's smart motorised blinds to be released, I'd jump at these (some of my blinds are quite laborious at >15 years old)
