This beam radiotherapy can wear you out.

And some of the side effects are annoying to put it mildly. Had a wry laugh after discussing them with the nurses.

Nurses: "It can happen for the short term."
Me: "What is your definition of short term?"
Nurses: "Five to six weeks after treatment finishes."
Me: "I don't like your definition of short-term."

All the best with your treatment SK. Shame they couldn't do your treatment in 1-2 weeks but your RO would know best.

I hope it's all going well for you as look at the positive side once that treatment finished talking to the nurse's..
Next will be a men's health specialist as I think that is what some men fear the most ..
    Good luck..

    Ta all.

Objectively it is a fascinating process. Most probably think that a patient attends and the machine does it's thing with only the staff there involved. Not the case. Yesterday, I was told the calvary was brought in, meaning a scan was done then multiple personnel were involved via Zoom conference with suggestions on the best approach to treat a particular area. Very interesting stuff indeed.

By the way @willair I did ask the specialist very early in the proceedings of the prognosis if I had decided not to proceed with treatment. Six years max.

Again, blokes, get an annual health check-up and follow any subsequent medical advice.

Ah heck. I'm not going to Jerusalem just yet so for "calvary" read "cavalry" and all will become clear!

About a week to go. Not too bad but...

Some issues which required adjustment to the treatment plan, attendance at Canberra Hospital ED and other interesting stuff. Oh well, it isn't always a matter of things going as you hope/expect.

    Thanks @Baker.

Won't go into any fine details as I don't wish others to throw up while eating lunch but suffice to say radiotherapy can irritate ones internals which, in my case, resulted in enthralling (?) side effects from a previous operation.

Should I inform the health facility of a flaw in its Covid protocol? Every third day asked for evidence of a negative RATS test. A pic of the result will suffice. Hmm, no date and time on the pic so show the same pic at each attendance. Nah, better do the right thing.

Only five more days to go!

Grr. One more operation shortly as a consequence of a side-effect of radiotherapy which resulted in a nasty infection.

Thanks. Just one of those things which can happen.

There's always one patient and that one is me.

It's funny how when you are young, you think nothing bad will happen.

And then it all changes. And life gives you a jolly good slapping.

Or you think that being “good” with diet/exercise/lifestyle/not smoking/not drinking is an absolute guarantee of perfect health.

Yes. Got to 60 without a night in hospital (I wasn't born in one lest you wonder), and then between 60 and 65 managed a heart attack (with nothing to suggest I was at risk) and two rounds of brain surgery following a fall. 70 next year and hoping to stay out of trouble until then.

I would not worry about the procedure to much ..

When I went through the robotics part --4 hours--and in the recovery section I asked the Nurses when do I have the operation and was informed that finished 2 hours ago..

All the best --six month time this will just be A bump in the road..
    Good Luck..

Ta. Not concerned. It's only a 10 minute procedure under GA. Means the waste of most of my day though as well rebutting the hospital's "Duty of Care" policy. Nooo you cannot go home by taxi. WTF? You mean private vehicles are never involved in an MVA or a taxi driver cannot respond to a request to get me to the closest emergency facility if something should be untoward on the way home - the same which would apply to the driver of a private vehicle?

Bloody modern life and risk management. I'm not going to go out my front door ever again because it's just too dangerous.

That was brutal. Post-op was not at all pleasant. Put simply in my case the radiation therapy not only irritated the bladder no end, it also enlarged the prostate. Add on getting an infection while catheterised for two months and you end up with one hell of a ride.
