All the best Satay. I heard that drinking a lot of tomato juice lowers PSA.

Thanks @datto. I suspect tomato juice will not resolve this. Any way have you seen the price of them? Cheaper to have surgery.

I remember my father being in the 'San' with a prostate problem, he would have been in his mid forties, he died from prostate cancer 40 years later... doctor told me make sure I told my 3 boys when they were middle aged to have a prostate examination, he thought it was genetic. Thank goodness this cancer can be treated if found early.

Best wishes @SatayKing . My father is now 85, still chugging along and slowly drinking cappuccinos 20+ years after prostate surgery

"SatayKing,i hope it's not too high on the ''Gleason scale'' and if detected early and you have the right team around you then in six-months time you will be ok ..Apart from 5-6 scans then the operation it's not as bad as it seems..
From my small experience, don't look on youtube or social media --just listen too the doctor's and when your sitting on the the table in front of the robot's arms starting to count down from 30 just hum this--
    Om Mani Padme Hum..good luck..

Thanks @willair. When it comes to my health matters I've never bothered about looking at tables or anything else really. I discuss with the GP, that's it and I go from there.

But if any male or even their partner reads any of this thread, results in them getting regularly checked and follows the medical advice (an important aspect) it's all to the good.

I am more certain than ever when God designed us she at least had a sense of humour. It's either that or we are a manufacturing flaw and there is only one way we can be returned to the Maker and Australia Post ain't it.

Just thought I would give a update for those who maybe are going through the prostrate cancer process..
Went in today to see the Specialist for the results from the last blood psa level ..
This is the second one,as the last one zero and today is the same zero ..
It's just over one year now from when I was diagnosed ,operation was late July and I go back and see the specialist late march next year.
So if your thinking about having the simple test and what happens next ,just have it done as there in nothing to fear..

Did you have any signs or symptoms of something not being quite right?

Can you elect to get a coronary angiogram just to check if everything is ok? I would've thought youd get refused unless there was a reason to look.

In my case, zero symptoms. Only detected due to the annual bloods indicating a high PSA. No metastasis. Monthly injections to be followed by radiation therapy.

Yeah, but surgery has risks associated with it plus possible post-operative complications which clinicians prefer patients avoid if there is a suitable alternative treatment.

From memory started about 2 years ago when the psa levels started to climb above normal levels and went back every three months from then until the psa levels went into the danger zone late last year ..
As far as pain ,very little at the start then lower back pain, and getting up several times a night to use the toilet apart from very little..
That's maybe why so many in the age range just think it's work related and never have yearly check ups ..

The CT coronary angiogram is minimally invasive compared with the classical Coronary Angiogram .

I wouldn’t be getting one unless there was a clinical reason . You’ll find differing opinions about the role of a CTCA . Some cardiologists use a CTCA but some use a calcium score as an alternative . Something to talk about with your Dr .

but if someone has symptoms you should be getting an ambulance first ……

There is a case before the courts ( and media ) where a person with no risk factors died from a reaction to the contrast with a CTCA . It was done as part of a work medical and the person involved wasn’t reviewed by a doctor prior to it being done .

Ok then, this pesky little beast is going to cost a total of $28k. Lucky I'm with Medicare as after the rebates I'm out-of-pocket by only $4k.

    Thank you fellow taxpayers.

Good Luck,To give an update went back to see the Cancer Specialist early today and as this is the third blood test after the operation and the ''PSA'' levels are zero ..

So back in three months and the same 2 blood tests then go into the six months test range..

Funny part was on the money side, the cost factor started at 21k just for operation alone ..
I asked the question about cash and he said for people like me with no insurance the 21k is for people with full cover ..worked out just under 24k for everything and that was with 2 nights in a private room but i was walking the next morning and left hospital that afternoon ..

Good to know you appear to be well on the mend @willair.

As for me, I'm having beam radiotherapy as an out-patient. Five days a week for four weeks. Only takes about 20 minutes but, of course, the travel and all associated matters adds to the time. At least they'll give me time of on the weekends for good behaviour.

Being treated as an out-patient is the reason Medicare picks up most of the tab.

I was considering plonking down the $28k up front but I don't think that would suit the system.

Yes it does vary quite a lot depending on the stage of the cancer.

I went private. Very simple reason being it was three days from the GP referral to the appointment with the specialist which was made over the phone by the GP while I was there. Public would have been a lot longer time-frame.
